On NFL Total Access last night (NFL Network), Adam Schefter said, "Peyton Manning knows as much, if not more, than any coach in the NFL -- except, maybe, Bill Belichick."

Except MAYBE Belichick? What a weird comment. So Manning apparently is smarter than Brady, who widely is considered a player version of BB on the field. Sometimes, Schefter seems a little too sold on his own pontifications.

They talk in real time. Sometimes maybe they might reflexively throw in what might be described as qualifiers even if, possibly, the situation might not completely call for it.

did anyone hear pat kirwan on WEEI ? he said the pats didnt do anything exotic when they played the colts in the past..just good coverage and tackling...this whole crap about smarts is BS IMO . how did the colts win the last 2 then ?
People just want to hyperbole lines like "no one prepares more than manning" ..BB is in someone's head etc ...

Peyton Manning is an idiot

Adam Schefter is a tool. The guy is a little dweeb like John Clayton, but without the acne, comb over and weighs a little more. Hi is another Colt\Manning ballwasher...

I think it is well-established that Manning is a very cerebral quarterback, who has the entire playbook in his head. In an interview with Jim Kelly, discussing the rarity of QBs who could call all their own plays these days (like in the K-gun offense), Manning was prominently mentioned, and rightly so.

Cerebrality does not always translate into winning or leadership or calm, of course.

The mention of BB is probably just the thowaway compliment, acknowledging that he is the standard of intelligence in the NFL these days. Did anyone else see the hilarious ESPN cartoon, with BB talking to Brady about a play, while solving a Rubik's Cube, answering Millionaire-lifeline questions on his headset, and bending a spoon with his mind? Funny stuff.

Consider that quote is from the same guy who two weeks ago said Deion Sanders would be the next Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins.

I swear it happened. Right there on the NFL Network, Rich Eisen looked like he was about to fall off his chair.

Speaking of Eisen, he had a heck of a one liner last night.

They've been doing a segment out of the Barbershop movie with Deion Sanders in a black barbershop with all the guys talkin' football. It's pretty funny in its own right. So everytime they do the segment the guys on the set tease Eisen about getting his hair cut at a "salon" instead of a barbershop like that.

So, they come out of Prime Time's segment last night and Eisen quips, "my barbershop isn't like that......they talk about fashion week".

Pay-a-ton may have the entire Colts *and* Pats playbooks committed to memory -- but, then, why does he still throw four picks against the Pats in the title game a couple of years ago, three to one guy (Ty Law)???

It appeared to me that Manning has greatly improved his ability to read the defense - that is he's really focused on the mental challenge since the Pat's played the Colts a year ago. Therefore clearly Peyton is the #1 QB in the NFL right now.

The question is whether Brady is going to panic again when he realizes Manning is going to show him up - because almost certainly Manning is going to do just that. Dungy's not stupid - he knows how to play mind games too. However If Brady sticks to what he does fairly well, and ignores Manning, then the Defense should keep the Pat's in the game.

Maybe Belichick? The guy that grew up traveling around the country helping his DAD coach at a very young age. The one that observed, assisted coached, waterboyed, held clipboards, for 4 or 5 decades worth of football guy?

Isn't Belichicks defensive game strategy for Superbowl xx5 vs the Bills on display in Canton? I'm sorry but Bill is supernatural and I'd put his knowledge up against anyone who has ever lived regarding the NFL.
