OT: Jets trade for Panthers OT Otah

The guy is done. He has played in only 4 games in 2 years because of his health. If healthy he is good, but he cannot stay on the field. Jets are desperate for anything better than Hunter. I should give them my grandmas number she would fit that description.

For the Jests though as long as they didn't give up a high round (which I can't imagine they would) it's not a bad move hoping the guy can stay on the field.

Will be interesting to see what pick was traded. I'm a little surprised that the recurring knee injury that's sidelined him for over half of his career so far didn't scare the Jets off, but maybe they're optimistic that he is (and can stay) finally healthy. Given that the Ducasse pick was a whiff, they have to find talent somewhere, and at this point anything that they can come up with is going to have baggage. His is that he can't get healthy.

From what I've read about this guy's career, I'd be shocked if the Jets gave up anything better than a sixth rounder.

Ah-Tah!!....AH TAH!!

He just had another MRI on his leg in June, because he'd apparently re-tweaked it, and he's a player with questionable work habits. There's a large percentage of the Panthers posters who are not unhappy to see Mr. Otah go.....

Jeff Otah traded to the Jets - Carolina Panthers - Carolina Huddle

This post seems to basically sum it up:

Jeff Otah traded to the Jets - Carolina Panthers - Carolina Huddle - Page 4

Apparently Otah's just lazy and can't be bothered to stay in shape/properly rehab? Sounds like he'll fit right in with the Jets.

Seems like a decent low risk/high reward trade for a team with serious problems at the position. Let's hope it's more like a Haynesworth than a Mark Anderson.

if Otah hadn't basically missed the last two years and had conditioning concerns before that, I might be a little more scared. I wonder if the guy has anything to offer at this point.

BTW, Landry is starting camp on the PUP. The Jets like to gamble on these injured guys.

landry probably sneezed..out 3 weeks

Looks like the foot-man is getting a little nervous about "The Condor", I don't blame him, he should be.

I clicked on that link, and this was on that twitter trail (a later post by someone):

Based on a story I heard about Otah this offseason from a very reliable source I'm not surprised.

They don't have the assets or cap space to get anyone else, so instead they're just gambling on players with ongoing/chronic injuries hoping they'll magically heal themselves.

It did. My bad for not being clear. The tweet I posted was later in the line. I just found it amusing.

LaCanfora reports that the deal is essentially a 3 team swap with Raider WR Louis Murphy going to Panthers for the pick they got from the Jets. That's one shrewd deal. Getting a guy with speed and size for a dude who's been a non-factor for 2 years. Murphy may not be a star but he's talented. I would have been pleased if the Pats sent a 7th rounder to the Raiders for him. He's a former track star in sprinting and has always averaged around 15yds/catch or better. At 6'2"/214 Murphy would have been a real threat to make the team as he also plays some special teams. The Jets got tooled by Carolina who dumped a major problem on the Jets and in turn got back a guy who has a real chance to excel with a stud like Newton chucking the ball.

The Jets finally admitted they have a problem at tackle and that neither Hunter nor Ducasse will fix it. If Otah is healthy that will help them, but I think this is likely a rather desperate grasping at straws

They still have a problem at Guard though, even if Otah comes through.
