This brings us a step closer to the era of Tanguay and Zolak:mad:....Zolak'll be fine and probably pretty good, but I would love to know what info Tanguay has on Krafty and family to remain in their employ. He is awful and there is nothing good about him on air - television or radio....The best thing Kraft could do would be to get rid of Gary Tanguay....his new confrontational faux tough guy act is a a complete freaking joke....

The first SB broadcast call was so flat with Summerall they had to use the radio call on the DVD's...

"Pulse-pounding finish." Classic Gil line. Summerall was pathetic, though I think they usually do use the local radio announcers on the official NFL DVDs?

Tanguay has the pipes but he's a moron. Arnold doesn't really have the pipes or commanding booth stature or presence that were Gil's signature.

Agreed on both counts. Arnold ... he and Mazz are two guys I just don't think belong around football.

Has Pete Sheppard ever done play by play? I'm sure some people have issues with him, but I try to imagine him calling a Pats game and it seems he has the voice and "booth stature" to pull it off -- just a matter if he can turn down the Pete Sheppard-ness we hear on talk radio. (Just throwing it out there; be gentle with them bricks!)

He is not an option. I like him but hes a radio personality- not a broadcaster with the skill-set and training need.

At least Meterparel has pbp experience but is too green.

I will miss Gino and it sounds like Gil should take a long hard look at whether the schedule is too grueling for him. They are classy and classics and I am glad they will go out on their own terms rather than be forced out. It used to make me mad when people would come on here, especially fans from other teams, and ridicule them and say they should be put out to pasture. That said, if Gil does stay on this year, I hope they pair him with someone with good eye sight. ;)

Wishing Gino a long, happy and healty retirement!!

Gino is the man who brought me though all of the blackouts and when I worked in the 90's, never forget what he and Gil mean to this Patriots Fan..

Zolak, are they kidding me??? Troy Brown or Tedy Bruschi is about 300 times better...

I think Zolak will do a very good job as commentator. That's a huge career boost for him, could last for many years. Bruschi would be good but has a solid gig with ESPN. Troy Brown is not built for it, he doesn't enunciate clearly and is too laid back.

I wish there was a way to sync radio with the TV feed. I'm either at the games or watching on television, no real reason to listen to the radio broadcasts.

I'd take Pete over Meter...who is just annoying, and Pete has no booth stature or command. A little like mumbles menino when he gets flustered. Meter is the anthisis of Gil on all levels.

Sheppard doesn't have the football knowledge to be a play by play or color guy (Gino was the color guy while Gil does the play-by-play). Also, he tends to run on too much where a color guy needs to be clear and concise to get out a point about a player or play in 10-30 seconds. He would be horrible at it because his skill sets do not match the needs for the position.

I'd offer up Sean McDonough but seems to have a good gig with ESPN/ABC doing a multitiude of assignments. He does a good job doing college football but I doubt he'd come over.

Gil will be harder to replace. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. Tanguay has the pipes but he's a moron. Arnold doesn't really have the pipes or commanding booth stature or presence that were Gil's signature.

OMG. Gary Tanguay? Can you imagine?!? AFC playoffs. Raiders at Patriots, 4th quarter, January 2002, Foxboro Stadium.

In his deep baritone,Tanguay:

"Patriots are driving, Zo. It's hard to see what's going on with the snow coming down and no yard lines or hashmarks. Have you ever had hash, Zo? I had some black Moroccan hash once and my eyesight went bad, Zo.

Brady's barking signals. I think that's Brady. What's his number again, Zo? Wait, maybe that's Drew Bledsoe. Well, he's barking out a play. I hope he's not hemmorhaging, Zo. The snow continues to come down. The quarterback drops back. Yep, Zo, that is Tom Brady. Says so right here #12 - Tom Brady, University of Michigan, a real Cinderella story. Are you going to eat those curly fries, Zo?

What happened, Zo? Brady dropped the ball? I missed that Zo. Thanks for the fries. Can't blame him. It's snowing really hard. It sucks to be Brady, right now, Zo. The referees are meeting and one of them is watching TV on the sideline. What's up with that, Zo? Replay? That's a good idea.

The Patriots are getting the ball back. They called it the what rule?!? That's no way to talk about football, Zo. Can we bleep that? Let's go to commercial. This is Gary Tanguay, the little man with the big voice and Scott Zolack live from Foxboro Stadium. Do you kiss your mother with that mouth, Zo?"

when I had the opportunity to have them close I immediately cast on Gino and Gil and do a word with them and the obvious photo

two legends

a simple thanks and sincere wishes for the future

Looking down the road at Gil's replacement, wouldn't you think someone in house already like Don Criqui would have the inside shot? If not Criqui, why not go out of town? There must be a young-ish announcer in the NCAA with good "pipes" that doesn't come with a pre-conceived reputation like a Tanguay, Meter, or Sheppard.

Tanguay would be my lesser of the evils out of that bunch.

Not to sound age-discriminatory but Criq just turned 68. I wonder how many more years he has.

Just think .. Criqui and Glanville. The Dream Team. Would be a very exciting couple of years.

it was time..last year was bad...but he was great when younger

Randy Cross is passable but Glanville.....sheesh.

Yeah, Glanville ... not quite ready for prime time.

Cross was responsible for what I thought was one of the best lines by an announcer. On a replay of a play where Terry Glenn gave the old T-Rex reach for the ball (ie not very much), Cross said "...not a lot of want on that play by Glenn." Perfect.

Ok. I grew up with you Gino. Loved you, but it is time.

How many of us could expect to remain in our jobs till we're 78 years old?

Agreed. Some of the calls have been pretty bad recently. It was time.

I have an ideah as we say in NE.
Old timers will remember Eddie Andelman's "Search for Superfoot" as they scoured England for soccer players to find a kickah.

How about if this time we search Italy to find a replacement for Gino Cappelletti?
