Wide Recievers - Training Camp Positional Preview
By: Steve Balestrieri

Now the Patriots passing attack is as balanced as they've ever had with wide receivers that can all produce at a high level. Add in the two world class tight ends, and this is a passing offense that will be very difficult to stop...

My preference would be......

Wes Welker
Brandon Lloyd
Jabar Gaffney
Deion Branch
Donte Stallworth

Matthew Slater (special teamer)

Yes, I do appreciate the quality of receiving depth over special teams ace Julian Edelman.

Plus, I really like the idea of QB/WR chemistry and playbook understanding. The article aludes to failures such as Ocho, Holt, and Galloway. All of these players lacked both of these attributes. Obviously Welker and Lloyd are in sync with Brady (and playbook). Gaffney and Stallworth have both prior successful stints with the Patriots. Lloyd already has an understanding of the passing schemes that are employed on this team. He will just need to develop the chemistry with Brady.

Therefore, the risk of success is much greater with these guys than the previously mentioned Holt, Galloway, and Ocho.

There were no documented chemistry or playbook issues with Holt. Holt got hurt after the 1st preseason game. BB wanted him to stick around all year but he chose to go to TV.

The only thing with that is that with GRONKnandez, your fourth receiver's rarely going to see the field, let alone your fifth.

I see your point, but we have been severly hurt by depth in the past. Just even think back to last season. I don't want players on the filed (like we had with Ocho and Underwood) that have no real possiblity of making a contribution. I don't even think that Branch was productive as as #2 receiver last year, but I think he is great as a #3/4 guy. With the 5 WR possibility that I laid out combined with Gronk and Hernadez, the Pats would be absolutely lethal.

Especially with the 3rd TE like Fells, etc. that will be in the game as a potential target as opposed to being 6th TE and ignored by the D. That'll move AH to either in the slot/4th WR or in the backfield as a receiver more often with Gronk, WW, Lloyd almost never coming out of the game.

Will this be The Brady Bunch for 2012?

I think so. Or do you think Dante Stallworth edges Edelman or Branch out?
