They need to get in line. The Jets are already a dynasty.

After an 8-8 season that's a rather bold statement. Dream Team talk wasn't enough pressure for them i guess and even though i liked their offseason moves i think they still aren't in the same class with the teams that have real QBs. So guys...are the Eagles a future dynasty in the making? :)

Michael Vick believes Philadelphia Eagles can 'develop a dynasty' - ESPN New York

No, I don't agree with stirring the pot again during the offseason, particularly this close to TC. One would think that they'd have learned their lesson last year, although there are some differences between public expectation this year and last.

I do believe that the PHI Eagles are better than their record indicated last year, and I also think they will strongly compete for the division title in the NFCE in 2012, but idiotic comments about becoming a 'dynasty' also show some of the mentality as a team + the lack of cohesion that they have over there.

I think that Vick could have chosen his words a LOT better in this case, while still getting his point across that they have a great deal of potential in the upcoming year. Teams that haven't won anything at all should not be discussing possible dynasties.

When you win a playoff game in the divisional round 2 out of the last 3 yrs, people (who are used to losing and have a low level of intelligence) tend to label you a dynasty. Makes sense, right?

If the Dream team went 8-8 and missed the playoffs, I'm guessing the Dynasty(at least 3 SB's) has 3 one-and-done's over the next 3-5 years.

not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5...

:rolleyes2:

I think you have to cut Vick a break here.

You guys have to remember to separate the HEADLINE from the QUOTE.

Headline: (written by ESPN to drive hits and stoke up controversy)
"Michael Vick sees Eagles dynasty"

Quote: "I think we have a chance to be that. I think we have a chance to develop a dynasty."

Exactly how many prevarications are in that short quote: "chance" twice and "to develop". And he goes on further:

""I think just getting to the postseason right now is our focus," he told Comcast SportsNet. "The Super Bowl is going to come if it's meant to happen. Some of the best teams have some of the best luck. Maybe we'll have some of that."

"if its meant to happen" "maybe we'll have some [luck]"

This is no where close to saying "this is the Dream Team" [V Young]. Admittedly, it is kind of silly to even utter the words dynasty if you havent won a game in the season yet, let alone won a playoff game or your 1st SB (the real first time you can start even thinking dynasty). But he put enough qualifications on it throughout all the pull quotes (and who knows what was left on the floor); that it is clear (to me anyway) he is just trying to be an leader to the team to tug at their emotions and sense of achievement by giving them a LONG TERM GOAL to get them focused on the now. - I dont see a lot to criticize when viewed that way.

BL: It is off season and mid-baseball season and ESPN needs hits to maintain advertising rates. they are just trying to create controversies where there aren't.

He compared his team to the Packer, 49er and Cowboy Dynasties on paper that is.

I'll just call it the "Paper Dynasty" for now.

I certainly agree with you here, Gumby. I think there are many differences between what he said and some of the idiotic comments from last year. I don't see it as that big of a deal as a whole.

However, I still think he could have chosen his words a little better, mainly by choosing to keep the word "dynasty" out of the eqaution altogether.

As a rule of thumb, when interviewed by the press sports athletes are supposed to offer perspective and be humble.

In my opinion, when he was asked the question if he thought that the Iggles had a chance to be a sports dynasty he should have said, "We need to make the playoffs first.".

Saying that the Iggles have a chance to be a sports dynasty can imply that he thinks this team is already a great team and needs to win more.

I agree that the Iggles have a boatload of talent and in theory should have been more than an 8-8 team.

As our local band has shown, talent is required to win championships, but grit, toughness, smarts and overcoming adversity is also required. All qualities the Iggles did not possess last year.

Too bad. I like the Eagles.

But, last year some moron in the locker room said they were the "Dream Team" and that haunted them all season. Now, it's going to be the "Year of the Dynasty."

Can't these wannabe's just shut up and get it done before putting themselves in the history books.

I'm guessing the "Fire Andy" chants start in Week 3 this year.

The Pats' dynasty started after a 5-11 season. Of course I don't see it happening for the Eagles, but it's the nfl, anything can happen.

Definitely an overblown article. Time to settle down and blow things out of proportion.

This is equivalent to Eli Manning's comments last year that he believed he was a top five quarterback. Do you remember all the media and fan backlash from that comment?

First of all, a guy should think highly of himself and his team. When asked don't you want your leader to exude confidence. As crazy as everyone thought Eli was, all he did was back it up with a Super Bowl victory.

Do you really see the 32 year old injury prone Vick growing into the best QB in the NFL over the next 4 years like Brady did? Plus that 2001 season was sort of a miracle season.

You talk of dynasty it gets reported. You talk of dream team it gets reported. You promise a SB during preseason it gets reported. See a pattern? Is it really necessary to make these type of comments to show that you think highly of your team or to be a leader? It's just silly and brings pressure imo. At least Rexy seems to have learned his lesson but there is still time for him.

I think the Birds win the NFC east this year and I don't think it will be close. they lost a lot of games in the 4th quarter last year some of that is coaching most of it is execution. The eagles stopping the run this year will go a long way for them as they were terrible in that wide 9 last season in that aspect.

Yeah, they could. I just don't see it happening any time soon (but who knows, we used to be the laughingstock of the NFL too :) ).

If 31 other teams cannot play for some reason (horrible accident, rampant disease, kidnapped by space aliens), then the Eagles have a chance to establish a dynasty. Not a good chance, but, yes there's a chance ...

I'm just saying this is the nfl. It's very unpredictable and anything can happen. Did you see a 6th round QB taking over our team and leading a dynasty back in 2001? Imagine if someone on the Pats said after the 2000 season that this team could become a dynasty. That someone would probably have been laughed at hysterically.
