Chargers released DE Luis Castillo.
Castillo was just re-signed in April after visiting the Chiefs and Patriots in March. Turning 29 in August, Castillo has reportedly been discussing his release with the front office for awhile. The Bolts want to go with youth up front, and Castillo is looking for more playing time. If that's truly the case, then I assume we'd give him another look. We could really use the depth there.

I would certainly agree with that. One way or another there will probably be a market somewhere for him.

There's also the thought that they may not have liked what they saw when they first brought him in too though, although we'll never know that.

I still think our defensive line is the biggest concern. I know the secondary has the talent to play well with proper coaching and confidence. The physical tools are there. Our linebackers have tremendous upside for obvious reasons.

When I look at the DL, it is the most disappointing. You could argue the Pats dynasty was built upon Seymour, Warren, and bunch of other great guys up front who could rush the passer, stop the run, and make the rest of the team much better. When I look at the players now, I see a phenomenal player in Wilfork, along with a bunch of JAGs who we get excited about but in reality don't have the talent to make a great impact.

Absolutely. He's a DE and he's a 29 year old whose release doesn't seem to be injury or attitude related. With the knowledge that we're still in need of some depth at that position, I'd assume we give him a look.

They do need more talent on the line but not because they suck. Playinig VW 86% of the snaps and all 16 games again at 30 years old is just begging for disaster. They need to cut that back so they can ensure he isn't washed up in two years.

Between VW, Deadrick, Fanene, Love, thats a decent front 4. Include the 3 or 4 edge guys and thats not too bad. Pryor and Brace are bubble boys.

Castillo practically missed all of last year and barely averaged a tackle/game in 2009 and 2010. It's a pretty bad sign when the Chargers would rather keep a JAG like Jacques Cesaire over him.

I'd say that Love is better than a JAG, but that's not extreme praise. I think he's pretty good, but upgradeable

Not during the offseason; he is free to sign any contract with any team. His Chargers deal no longer matters.

Pats seem to be lookin at every/anyone doesn't hurt worse that could happen is he doesn't pan out. If he doesn't have an injury or shoots himself in his leg hey why not? I'm sure he will be even more motivated to proove'm wrong.
