It looks like jets aren't going to re-$ign Leonard, is he worth takin a look at? I know his injury/injury prone, size could be in question but size of his heart and passion and veteran leadership might be a positive in locker room not mention stickin it to Jets is always fun.

Two straight years with leg injuries....Big heart but can't stay healthy.

Always worth a look I guess if the Pats experience an injury in TC and sign him to a 1yr deal and minimal to no cap hit if cut.

Really? It seemed like Jets fans couldn't wait to get him off their team last year because he was constantly getting torched in coverage.

So was Steve Gregory. I don't see why we wouldn't at least want to give him a look. At most as a starter and/or for depth purposes. At the very least for due diligence.

No I remember Chargers fans being disappointed by him leaving too. But I guess there's no harm in just inviting Leonard to camp.

I remember once we signed a supposedly beat up safety who couldn't play anymore because of injuries. Turned out pretty well.. Always worth a look, you never know.

That wasn't what I read on the Chargers forums, so that's most likely the case. Their reactions, IIRC, was what prompted most of the "out of position" discussion.

I kind of agree with both of these. We don't need Leonard, but he's well worth a look if his knee is healed. Leonard was one of the few actual leaders on the Jets, a guy with a huge heart and a lot of smarts and experience, and also a great STer. I'm not sure where he would fit, but he'd add some experience and leadership to the secondary. I'd take a look at him, though I feel pretty good about our secondary lineup as it currently stands.

And Jets fans also called him the QB of the defense who made sure everyone were doing their their role. His absence from several Pats' games was the single most used excuse by Jets fans why Brady and the Pats' offense torched the Jets' defense.

At his age with a torn PCL, I am guessing he will not be effective this season. But if he wasn't such a health concern, I think he is exactly the type of player the Pats would go after. He is a smart player who is more than happy to do whatever it takes to win even if he has to give up personal glory and stats. Not a very good player, but can be more than adequate in the right system.

That said, I think he is probably done for his career.

That's not what I saw on the Chargers forums.

And he was seen as playing out of position because he WAS playing out of position. He only played SS because of Weddle. He's a coverage safety.

You should re-read my post. I never claimed that he wasn't playing out of position. I just stated that a post linking to the reactions of Charger fans once the news broke about the signing led to the discussion.

Apples and oranges. The take on Harrison when the Chargers cut him that he went from elite status to good or very good due to injuries. His last year in San Deigo he had 86 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 FF, and 2 INTs in 13 games. That would have been a career year for Leonhard. Leonhard never had a year like that. Teams were actively pursuing Harrison and he almost a had a deal done with the Raiders when the Pats' swooped in.

Let's not forget that Harrison didn't have an injury as bad as a torn PCL either.

Sorry, but comparing his situation now to Harrison's situation in 2003 is laughable.

BTW, by July 18, 2003, Harrison had been a Patriot for four months. Nine years later, Leonhard is a free agent without a home.

I may be wrong that it is a career ender because Leonard is much younger than I thought he was, but he should never be mentioned in the same breath with Rodney Harrison.
