ST snaps

White, Slater the leaders in '11 ST snaps

Funny to see that Gronk got a lot of time on special teams. He really is valuable to this team.

Also, how does Zoltan have more snaps than the long snapper, Aiken? Isn't the punter only on the field during punts and field goals (as the holder)? Those are both situations with a long snapper. I'm probably overlooking something obvious.

My guess is either a counting error or Aiken was out for a snap b/c of a stinger or something.

With a tip of the hat to Tom Curran at Comcast SportsNet New England, here is a look at which New England Patriot players played how many snaps on special teams. I found it interesting that the leader was not ST captain Matthew Slater, but was actually Tr...

I think the most exceptional part of this is the sheer number of players who took ST snaps—fifty-four in all. Just about the only notable Patriots not on this list are Tom Brady, Deion Branch, and Chad Ochocinco. Pretty much everybody else did their tour—even players like Aaron Hernandez.

Maybe Mesko was part of the FS/CB carousel and we just didn't notice him in there. Honestly, there couldn't have been much of a drop off there

I was going to ask why Brady doesn't get credit for one ST play for his punt, but apparently the numbers are for regular season games only. Either that or maybe quick kicks don't count as being a special teams plays.

Well, they were under a lot of pressure.

Knowing that the Pats' defense would momentarily be going back on the field caused quite a few fans to snap last year as well.

Briliantly struck, sir

I think the issue there is that the special teams unit wasn't on the field at that point—it was the standard offensive formation. So it wouldn't really count.

Not surprised to see Sergio Brown and James Ihedigbo up near the top.. those dudes are as good at special teams as they are bad at regular defense.

Good point, just like I'm not sure if Mesko should get credit for an offensive snap if we tried a fake field goal.

we had 67 opponent punts, Edelperson returned 28 of them, Welker had a few, the rest I assume were mostly fair catches?
