Patriot Dynasty: Hall of Famers?

In the past dozen years of Patriots football, who do you think has a decent shot at making the Hall of Fame and why?

My thoughts...

Drew Bledsoe: He was the QB during what I consider the "Colt years" (Regular season success, playoff failure) of the Pats dynasty. His passing stats are up there. Maybe not first ballot, but I think he has a decent shot at getting in.

Tom Brady: No doubter.

Troy Brown: I wish.

Tedy Bruschi: :ditto:

Corey Dillon: He's another with nice career totals. Outside shot at going in with us if he wins another SB (or 2 ) with us.

Rodney Harrison: :ditto: His hard-nosed, "dirty" style of play may lose a few votes for him though.

Richard Seymour: A few (3+) more years at his level of play and he deserves serious consideration.

Adam Vinatieri: Shoe-in.

What does everyone else think?

Unfortunately many base their decision on Probowls, stardom, etc. So it's unlikely we have more than three or four who get in. IMO, Brown and Bruschi belong. Not sure about Harrison or Dillon.

The locks right now are Brady, BB, and Vinatieri. Seymour is on his way. As for everyone else it's going to be tough. Dillon probably has the best chance. He'll go in as a Patriot though.

I agree except the HOF doesn't like kickers. There is only one placekicker, Jan Stenerud, that's gotten in, and no punters, basically meaning no Ray Guy. Adam probably gets in for his clutch kicks in huge situations, and if he rounds it out with long term stats like a Stenerud or a Morten Anderson.

Bledsoe? No way Jose.

I think that if the election were held right now, he would go in.

But a few years from now, two things will be held against him:

1. His stats are substantially worse than several other kickers who nobody thinks should go to the hall of fame.

2. Those two potential game winning kicks that he missed in the 2007 AFC championship will hurt his reputation as a supposed clutch kicker.

The stats won't get worse. That's why he moved to a dome. It's easy from here on out for Vinatraitor.

Dillon has a very good chance. Just FYI Canton is not like baseball and you don't "go in" with a team. the busts are just of the player's head. they will celebrate his career with both teams.

It's very tough to get into the Hall. I'm thinking only Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and Adam Vinatieri are getting in. You can throw in Junior Seau as well, even though he hasn't been part of the dynasty until this season.

Hmm. I thought they choose the team but didn't put as much of an emphasis on the selection as the MLB does. Like Buoniconti went in as a Dolphin while Hayes chose the Raiders. I've always thought Hannah was our only real HOFer. Learn something new everyday.

I don't think Drew's ever "been benched/replaced by a rookie".

Neither Brady nor Romo were rooks, and Losman also replaced Bledsoe as a second year QB.

You're talking semantics. Those who make the football decisions decided to let go of Bledsoe as their starting QB and replace him with an unproven commodity. Only once did this come about due to injury.

Can you blame the Cowboys for choosing to shave almost 10 years off the QB position? Romo made the pro-bowl this season he's a pretty good player.

Yeah, that's why they were my bubble guys! (Nice catch on Rice, too! ;-)

But I might give yu a little debate on Coates.

Big Ben certainly has the stats and he has the ring (with the Ravens in 2000).

Check out Ben's career stats compared to Dave Casper, a Hall of Fame tight end from Coates' era:

Plus Casper did it with some of the greatest teams the NFL has ever seen - the late 70's early 80's Raiders...

Coates did it with mostly mediocre Patriots teams of the late 80's and 90's...

All valid points but nothing more than excuses. Can you elect a QB who has been replaced by guys with zero starts prior to replacing him not once, not twice but three times by three different guys to the HOF? I can't, even if I could.

Bledsoe is a great stat QB - give him all day and he'll pick ANYBODY apart, I thought he was an awesome QB when he was here, nobody has ever been a classier player (even LT) than Drew but in the NFL they don't give you all day and that's why all his coaches have moved on from him.

Armen - good point on Coates. It's interesting to look at his stats.

It all depends on how his successors do.

Brady is already a sure-fire Hall-of-Famer.
Romo and Losman are both at the very beginning of their NFL careers and they have both shown flashes of why their coaches chose them over Bledsoe.

I think that Bledsoe's stats are worthy of Canton, and you have to consider that these replacements all came after upper echelon QB play for almost a decade as a franchise QB, and in his 30's.
