Draft is right around the corner ... June 28th. With a potent backcourt of Bradley and Rondo Ainge just needs to sign a vet or 2 to back them up. We need big men but the draft is sparse for that. It is doubtful Fab Melo will slip to them ... not that he is an answer.

On that note I think Ainge should go risk vs reward and grab the 2 question marks if they are available.
Both have top 10 perhaps top 5 talent.

Jared Sullinger ...
Position:
PF
Height: 6-foot-9
Weight: 268 pounds
Age: 20
School: Ohio State

Royce White ...
Position: SF
Height: 6-foot-8
Weight: 261 pounds
Age: 21
School: Iowa State

i wish kg would make up his mind before the draft. but it doesn't look like he will.

Word out there is KG is definitely coming back. Ray is likely to end up in Miami.. that's fine. And I'm all in on White.. Grantland had a great piece on him.

So the latest rumor is that the Celts are "All In" on Austin Rivers???? I would be fine with that if we didn't have Bradley but we need size and we could get 2 quality young big men with 21 and 22 so why give up the farm for another SG???? I can't think this is a smoke screen because Austin will be gone long before 21 anyways so I am not sure what to think about this???

Rivers is a trigger-happy show boat. I really hope he does not become a Celtic.
That might be my Carolina Blue tinted view…but that's just my opinion.

if the celtics trade up, i want them to go for Tyler Zeller. He is NBA ready and we can move KG to the 4. I say no to Rivers because i just dont see a fit with the Celtic as long as we have Bradley.

i am fine with staying put.

Celtics are on the clock. The anticipation.

Sullinger @ 21. Assuming his back works out I'm pretty happy with that.

Fab Melo @ 22. Would have preferred Perry Jones at that slot but center is a need. Interesting.

Sullinger and Melo ... I'm okay with it ... Doc will make players out of them and if garnett comes back Melo is in for hell.

Would love to see the Celtics hop back in this draft and get Perry Jones ... great value right now.

im totally underwhelmed. a guy with a back problem and a project. fab mello? sigh!! hopefully kg comes back and they pick up a piece or two in free agency.

It's interesting reading the sky is falling in types over at Celticsblog. Half of them still haven't realised the Celtics are a defense first team.

rumor is the Cetics are going to do a sign and trade with Bass involved. Bass, 2013 1st rd pick and another plaer to Atlanta for Josh Smith.

that would be something!

I know you know the draft is one tool available to GM's when building a roster insano. The Celtics are a good team. What happens moving forward will be interesting to watch. Free Agency has just become that little bit more intriguing as a C's fan.

its tough when your drafting at 21. i was just hoping they could have got someone who could come in and help next year. ya never know maybe they did with the kid from ohio state. but melo will be sitting at the end of the bench every night. but i haven't been right about anything regarding the celtics this year so what do i know lol.

Bradley and Rondo were mid-late first rounders. They both look like working out. When it comes to the draft I try to leave my surprise at home and look at big picture things. I no longer aim for massive highs and lows from immediate reactions. Deal with the picks and move on to the next stage. :rocker:

I can see Sullinger producing with the 2nd unit ... given what they have now. Of course what they will have after FA is anyone's guess so we'll see. But a low post scorer on a jump shot kind of team is a good thing for us IMO.

I'm not sure what the fuss is about.

Look back over the history of the picks in the 20s. Each year, you are lucky if you get 1-3 players who end up being legitimate NBA players, whether that's just role players or starters.

Overall, you're probably looking at a 1:4 chance of this guy even being on your squad in three years.

Take the highest upside guys for your team. It's not tricky.

Sullinger's body and game are NBA ready. If he improves his shot and defense, then you have a much better version of Big Baby or Bass. Not bad at 21.

Fab Melo's body is NBA ready, his game is not. If you can develop him like you did Kendrick, then you probably have a better version of Perk. If you don't, you wasted the 22nd pick. Oh well.

And consider how well Rondo worked with Shaq and Perk - two big guys who can set hard picks and roll. If Fab Melo is going to succeed offensively anywhere, it's going to be with a creative, penetrating point guard who can attract defenders in the lane and get Melo the ball in a place where he will score.

At worst, you wasted two picks that were likely to be wasted anyway. At best you have a legitimate 4-man, and potentially a Perkins like 5. That is not bad at all.

My only knock is neither fits the athletic mold we have in Bradley/Rondo, or potentially in Jeff Green. It would be ideal if these guys could run the floor with those two. Maybe Melo can relative to a 7-footer, I don't know, I tend to think his athleticism seems underrated based on what I see.

I will start cheering for the Knicks if we make that deal. Aside from the fact that 2 players and a 1st round pick is way too much for Josh Smith; we just drafted Sullinger who is the same size and could play the same position. I'm not saying I wouldn't like Josh Smith on the Celtics, but not at that price.
