In advance of the first day of media access to organized team activities on Thursday, the Patriots released an updated roster that includes jersey numbers for their veteran offseason additions:

Jabar Gaffney -- 10
Anthony Gonzalez -- 16
Donte' Stallworth -- 19
Marquice Cole -- 23
Will Allen -- 26
Steve Gregory -- 28
Joseph Addai -- 29 white (Sterling Moore is still 29 blue)
Tony Fiammetta -- 42
Spencer Larsen -- 46
Bobby Carpenter -- 59
Robert Gallery -- 72
Jon Opperud -- 74 white
Daniel Fells -- 86
Brandon Lloyd -- 88
Gerard Warren -- 92
Marcus Harrison -- 94
Jonathan Fanene -- 98
Trevor Scott -- 99

I beleive Gaffney retains his old number from 07 but Stallworth didn't,I think he was #18 in 2007

I think you're right. I guess since Slater is technically listed as a WR they can't split it like the others? I'm not sure exactly how that works.

Gallery has Light's number. Interesting.

Yeah, but 18 now belongs to a captain and Pro Bowler.

Loving the 88 for Lloyd. It fits him well.

Lloyd wore #85 in the past. He might be able to get that back this season if he wants it.

Yeah, sort of sad to see someone else in #72.

I think Lloyd should have kept 88, but what are ya gonna do...

hope hightower will get another number

Interesting to note that number 93 wasnt issued. Thinking that it hasnt been assigned to anyone yet means the Pats are still thinking that Andre Carter might make a return to Foxboro.

According to my 53 man prediction, he'll probably get stuck with 58, which is meh. Or he could take a number in the 90s.

Maybe they're holding on to 88 for the return of Sam Aiken or Terry Glenn ...

A look back at uniform numbers 81 and 85 since 1990. Once I reached the final name below I decided I didn't want to go back any further.

Previous Patriots that have worn number 85:
2011: Chad Ochocinco
2010: Aaron Hernandez
2008: Tyson Devree
2007: Doug Gabriel
2004: Jed Weaver
2003: JJ Stokes
2002: Cam Cleeland
2000-01: Jermaine Wiggins
1999: Sean Morey
1997-98: Lovett Purnell
1994-96: John Burke
1991-93: Marv Cook
1990: Eric Seivers

Previous Patriots that have worn number 81:
2007-10: Randy Moss
2006: Jonathan Smith
2003-05: Bethel Johnson
2002: Donald Hayes
2001: Charles Johnson
1998-2000: Tony Simmons
1995-96: Hason Graham
1993-94: Ray Crittenden
1992: Walter Stanley
1991: Rob Carpenter
1990: Zeke Mowatt

tried to open that link, unfortunately the Globe seems to be requiring a subscription to read their articles now. Bummer, the Extra Points blog became a daily must read when Mike Reese started it as Reese'e Peices.

:(

I'm pretty sure it's a case of their site being down. If it required a subscription there would be a page asking you to subscribe.

cool, ty for the heads up on that.

I'm lost on the numbers thing, they're all just numbers to me. [maybe 00 or 69, but...]

I miss the poster who knew all the tight numbers. I'm lost without his guidance.

As a football fan, I try to find meaning in even the most trivial aspects of the game.
