Patriots re-signed safety James Ihedigbo today

There is our 4th safety on the 53.

Good ST and depth, he's bad, but atleast he knows what he's doing for a 4th safety.

I just can't see his value. #44 chasing a receiver, that's my vision

SOMEBODY haste take all those shoulder injuries for the team

I like the kid. Wish him well.

He's a tackling machine and BB only likes defensive players who can tackle.

For the last safety on the team, I'd rather a guy who has started a few games, made some tackles, and has a clue, unlike the dreaded SERGIO BROWN.

As a starting safety, he's toast. As a STer and emergency depth safety, he's fine. There aren't many teams in the NFL who have a #4 safety that you'd be comfortable seeing on the field for long stretches, and Ihedigbo is no exception. It's a testament to how bad the secondary was last year that he started for us.

Ihedigbo immediately beckoned for the trainer and had to be helped out of the conference room.

Then how did Stomper Meriweather last 4 years?

Re: the Diggy re-signing, Bill would've been better-off signing Oshie Atogwe instead.
Maybe he's looking for some Big Nickel competition for Barrett & Tarpinian. And now
can we pretty please release Sergio Brown?

Ihedigbo is a good special team and might end up being a decent safety in a limited role. He just clearly wasn't a starter which he was the role he was thrust into. I don't have a problem with this signing. I will if he is starting in November though.

The fact that he might be better than Brown strikes only fear in my heart. If either of them are members of the final squad I will be depressed and despondent. BB will not do this to me.

To put this signing in a few words it's a good signing and Ihedigbo beats Sergio Brown, but I pray dear God don't let him start again.

I don't get the "If this guy is starting then the signing sucks" thing. If he's starting it's because of one of a few reasons. Injuries maybe. Maybe he's having a career year and outplayed the other DBs. Maybe the other DBs are sucking horribly and he's not good, but not quite as bad.

Regardless, if he's starting it's because BB thinks he's the best option. So why would you want someone even worse out there?

*edit: I don't want him to start either. But better him than someone with equivalent skills but does not know the defense if that's what it comes down to.

Woot! He'll be filling the role he was built for and from all accounts he's a great guy.

I'm with you. High-character, experienced team player competing for a role as an ST stud/emergency safety? Sounds good to me. The fact that he should never have been a starter doesn't change this being a nice low-key signing.

Unfortunately for us, he was usually making tackles after getting burned by the opposing receiver.

Roster spots were already going to be tight, who's gonna lose his spot now?

He isn't taking Sergio Brown's job.......

.....that's because I figure Brown's job was already taken by someone else a long time ago.

Honestly how is being a horrible player fine.We absolutely know he can't play so why not take a chance on some free agent rather than bringing this guy back. It's humanly impossible for anyone to be worse than this guy so compared to this him other free agents have no downside but possible upside.

This is a good depth signing that many posters have noted. He fits perfectly into the role of solid ST's player and safety depth.....

You can do much, much worse the James Ihedigbo as a 4th safety. Glad to see an all-around solid guy back with the team.....

Honestly, he wasn't that bad and his tackling will probably improve now that his shoulder has had time to heal.

He already did...last year. :)
