Morris said nothing is set in stone, but there’s definitely some interest from both sides.

“It’s definitely reciprocal,” Morris said. “I’m still here. My family is here. My kids still go to school here, so it’s definitely reciprocal. I’ve been around a while, so I kind of just know the deal. Words are one thing, but all I can do is take care of my part. If something materializes, then I know I’ll be ready.”

erm...no thanks. I know he showed some signs of life in Dallas last year but last time he was here there wasn't much gas left in the tank. I'd rather stick with our current options. Either way, I'm not sure it's too serious on the team's part.

I'll take Ridley, Vereen, Woody, Addai, Fiammetta, Larsen, Kettani, even Kevin Faulk over Morris. So no thanks.

I don't get how they could possibly be interested at any level in this guy.

Maybe as a training camp body, but not a chance on the 53.

Shadow roster, probably. If Vereen doesn't pan out and Ridley gets hurt, he could start looking like a decent option pretty quickly.

Faulk, Woodhead, and Addai are all situational players, and 2 of the 3 of them might be done as is.

I think that's about as far away from that call being made as it is...

Would be a step back signifying either Addai didn't pan out as a veteran presence or Faulk is even more done than we think and signing two FB's was just something Bill did because he could.

I see no problem with having Faulk and/or Morris brought in to see how they look. Faulk is a year off that surgery, and Morris is an all around guy who'd be looked at for the last spot if someone else isn't panning out.

Morris gave a lot while here and didn't look half bad in spot duty for the Cowboys a year ago. I don't know if he has anything left but, like Deus said, there is nothing wrong with bringing him in for a look.

If they can afford the roster spot. Bring him in. Let him help out the young RBs in camp and the preseason and then cut him before the final 53 man roster. I can see him making the final 53 man roster in any situation.

One-day contract, sign and retire?

I think they look at guys like this so they can see if they still have something left if they need a body during the season.

He was old and injury prone seasons ago, I can only imagine where he is now.
Besides we're already 5 deep at RB and 3 deep at FB, and I'm guessing 5-6 max out of those make the roster. WR and TE are also very deep, possibly keeping 3 QB's again too. Not sure where he'd fit in aside from camp fodder.

The extra 10 training camp roster spots sparks these kinds of things. It basically affords you an extra player in each position grouping that you normally wouldn't bother with, but gives you insurance and camp bodies to limit reps for injured players. I'm sure Morris would have value, if nothing else, as a guy who knows the camp routine and can help with the young guys, and if (God forbid) two or three of our top backs get hurt or aren't ready for primetime, he's at least a body who's had moderate success here.

I don's see why anyone would be against this. There are two open spots and the likelyhood of them being filled by something more exciting is slim. So why not bring in someone who knows the system, been successful here, and showed he could have more left than we realized last year in Big D.

I am not saying it is must but its worth stacking him up next to Faulk and deciding which one has more left to offer the team. As much as we all love Faulk it looked like Morris had more left last year. Faulk is now more then a year removed from the ACL so that could make a difference.

Maybe they bring neither in but each would easily have value in camp and depending how the summer goes either could also potentially have value on the 53.

What's the over/under for how many snaps he'd last before an injury robbed him of any effectiveness?

I'd say it's low enough that having him on the roster before November or so is pointless.

We have young RBs. Samy's injury history is irrelevant if we use him and Faulk in camp to show the kids how a vet prepares himself. Depth is always a good thing. I do not expect to see either Faulk or Morris on the 53 assuming the kids are healthy. Put the geezers on speed dial in September.

It's pretty much a no lose situation bringing him in. Why do people feel so threatened by the possibility? Afraid he'll outplay their binkie, perhaps? A young player should earn his spot. If he can't beat out Morris, then is he really someone we want?

The value Morris brings in veteran leadership far outweighs any potential that you'd get from signing some other UDFA off the street. Also, Morris was a regular contributor on ST, if I recall. He brings that to the table too, from an experience/teaching perspective.

Tough, experienced, good teammate. Little or nothing left in the tank. Yeah, I can live with that as a the 89th or 90th guy on a preseason roster.

When I read the thread title I was hoping it was referring to a BBQ picnic. Sigh.

We have GREAT young talent at the RB position and Addai as the veteran to mentor and step up if either don't pan out. Sammy Morris? Seriously?
