For some reason BB attracts this. Everybody declares victory if they get a player that BB expresses any interest in. It's like they just ****ed the prom queen.

I love Welker, but I'd deal him for Harvin in a cocaine heartbeat. Harvin is 7+ years younger and an obscene talent. Don't be fooled by the production, it's as simple as one coaching staff getting it (Patriots) and another being clueless (Vikings). Harvin played 58% of the Vikings snaps last year despite them having zero talent at the WR position and being healthy. Not to mention the difference between Tom Brady and Christian Ponder.

Problem is Vikings would have zero interest in a deal for a 31 year old Welker as a rebuilding team. It'd have to be Welker dealt for pick(s) and then flipping a likely better package of picks for Harvin. Problem is based on age, Harvin would likely require quite a bit more to acquire than Welker would. Probably wouldn't be worth the extra picks to acquire Harvin when we don't have the excess of picks that we usually do.

If it comes down to a comparable package of picks though, give me Harvin any day. This kid would be an absolute monster if used to his full potential like he would be here. Throw in a 7 year age gap at a position we need to get younger at, a dynamic kick returner and just the versatility he provides, and it's a no brainer in a straight up deal IMO.

1. The "2nd round pick" talk is all speculation. Rick Spielman is pretty clear that the Vikes aren't interested in trading Harvin, and I'm sure their asking price won't be that low. And if it were, there would be a long line of teams interested in Harvin.

2. If Harvin is unhappy because he felt he wasn't used enough, that kind of thing doesn't generally sit well with BB. No player should be bigger than the team.

3. If Harvin is unhappy because he wants more money, that wouldn't fit well with the number of in house players who have contracts coming up.

Gotta disagree with you on point #2. It's not like Harvin is a role player who is complaining about not getting enough playing time. He's their best weapon in the passing game by far and one of the better ones in the league. He's also not being some diva complaining about not getting the ball enough like we so often see. He's complaining about playing 58% of his team's snaps- a team that just finished with the 2nd worst record in the NFL at that. How a guy like that plays as little as that when you are as bad as the Vikings are at receiver, I have no clue. It's one of the more absurd coaching decisions I've seen and Harvin is completely justified is complaining about it.

Frankly, I'd view it as more concerning if he WAS happy with his role. It would show a player who just isn't very competitive and doesn't care whether his team wins or loses because that's what the Vikings do when they sit this guy for over 40% of the game, increase their odds of losing considerably.

You nailed it on part 1, though. It's going to cost A LOT more than a 2nd round pick if he's even available at all, which I'm not sure of. Just because he has requested a trade doesn't mean they have to honor that request.

Part 3 is another concern but one I think could be overcome considering he's got 2 years left dirt cheap, and he hasn't totally blown up statistically thanks to the Vikings inept coaching staff.

Overall, I agree it's a pipe dream based on point 1. Vikings say they won't trade him and even if they are just posturing and are open to dealing him, it'd cost a lot more than Welker or a 2nd round pick.

While I get (agree w/) the age argument (harvin vs welker); the skill set (at least within the Pats offense) I would take as a wash. To expect that any other wr to walk in and match welkers LEAGUE LEADING production FROM THE SLOT in this offense is a bit of an iffy proposition. No matter how good you think PH is.

And the deal-breaker in my mind is the repoire issue. As ocho and multiple other wrs before him have shown - if you arent on the same page as TB; IN THIS OFFENSE you arent goign to be effective. No matter what your skills. Since there is no way you can guarantee that repoire I would not do that deal at this date this close to the new season. For next year if they cant turn the franchise tag into a long term deal ... sure.

This is with Christian Ponder at QB too, not Tom Brady. He even chipped in with 345 yards rushing at a 6.6 yards per carry clip and is an elite kick return guy.

Harvin reminds me of one of those good/great WR's who is just simply stuck on a team with no direction. I think Brandon Lloyd was the same way...great WR who simply was in bad situation(s) and never really got into a teams offense. Harvin just doesn't seem to like Minnesota, and something tells me this guy would be a 1,200 yard, 12TD type of player if he could just get out of Minnesota and get onto a better structured team.

It's insane that a player with his skill set and versatility is on the field so little. With the coaching trend in Minn I wonder how they plan on downgrading from the current coach.

back then it was much speculation that percy was the top target of the draft of the head coach of the patriots bill bilchick --- sorry i cant every spell his name right hahahha

but bam childress stole him away a second before the patriots picked and bill got pissed and traded back for pat chung

Once again people are confusing gifted/athletic with better. They are not always one in the same, let alone in this system.

Under Childress the Vikings ran a pure West Coast system. Harvin formed a close bond with Randy Moss in his brief stint in Minny. Talking frequently after Moss departed advising Harvin to get Chilly fired. Then with Musgrove last season they ran a little bit of this and a little bit of that and basically tried to find ways to cater to what players were comfortable running... Musn't have suited Percy, but then he's only one of many they were attempting to cater to.

This system doesn't cater to you, you assimilate within it (or you don't and we all know what happens then). Percy says it's not about the money, which of course means it is. It's probably also about how and how much he's used. Bill loves guys who biatch about that, just ask AD. Percy is exhibiting similar passive-agressive behavior... Harvin wants to maximize his skills and career earnings. He struggles with migraine headaches and while their hit or miss nature only cost him 3 games to date, they cost him a lot more practice time. Missed 36 practices last season. We all know how Bill feels about practice, and missing over a third of them tends to impact game planning and usage.

Minnesota has struggled to field a competitive offense over the last couple of years. Their best season was the Favre seat of my pants version of the WC offense. QB play has been sketchy since. However we should have learned very recently that when a gifted player is not part of the solution where is he, it's usually because he's part of the problem. But there are some among us who never learn. Talent is seductive. Hopefully Bill is done being seduced for a while...
