Bobby Carpenter grew up outside Columbus, then played there for Ohio State, still lives in Columbus, and per a blog post has gone back to Columbus to work out hard before training camp.

So it seems very likely that he works out at Ohio State, where Mike Vrabel was spending some of his off-season time even when he was still playing (and where Vrabel now coaches).

And........

I could see him making the roster as ST-specialist, and from there, who knows. Any connection to Mike Vrabel can't be a bad thing, I suppose.

Carpenter even looks like Mike Vrabel ... not. :D

on a side note...I stayed at a Holiday Inn in Dubuque ,Iowa last week...

This simply makes no sense, Carpenter looks nothing like Vrabel, for that we'd really need to go to Rob Ninkovich.

This Carpenter guy looks a lot more like Clay Matthews.

The similarity between Vrabel and Ninkovich is almost eerie . The year after Vrabel leaves Ninkovich comes along, looks like Vrabel, same position, wears #50, and even plays alot like him. Both of them even had a similar career path with not being very productive on their first team (Vrabel in Pittsburgh, Ninkovich in New Orleans) but finding success in New England. If Ninkovich was two inches taller and caught passes, they'd be pretty much identical.

My point is that if Vrabel had a poor opinion of him, Carpenter might well not be here.

Huh, when did Vrabel start hiring for the Patriots? Is your point that you believe some sort of 'alumni' connection and recommendation by Vrabel is what landed Carpenter a shot with New England?

Everyone is looking for a "Mike Vrabel type linebacker". Can anyone tell me who was the "Mike Vrabel type" before there was a Mike Vrabel?

As one factor, yes.

They look nothing alike, aside from the haircut/beard.
