That is totally conjecture. Reiss said Mankins looked good at OTAs, even though he didn't participate.
Reiss also said Mankins wasn't even wearing a knee brace while jogging/sprints and doing resistance training. I can't imagine the pats would let him do that unless he was far enough along that the knee itself is fairly stable.
I'm gonna side with Reiss and say Mankins will be good to start week 1.
I'm also getting really tired of Walker on the ESPN AFC East blog, who honestly thinks Mallet will beat out Hoyer for the #2 position by the end of training camp.
