Brady adjusting to Lloyd's unique skills
"It's just sometimes a matter of, it doesn't really look like he's open then -- boom -- he springs open on you," Brady explained. "Sometimes you think he's covered and you get off him and then you watch the film and you're like, 'How did he get open?' He knows what he's doing to set the guy up and he makes the move and you gotta trust that he's gonna beat the guy and he does. It's just a matter of, 'Don't let your eyes take away from what he's doing in his route' because you know he's gonna get open at some point."

I am feeling very good about this guy...

Can't wait to see him in action.

He truly is the X factor as far as this offense. Depending on Gronk's health, The additions of Lloyd and Gaffney can actually make this offense better than last year's, which has to be truly scary for the opponents.

I'll feel a lot better once Brady starts seeing him as open on the playing field and not afterwards in the film room. This just tells me that there is still quite a ways to go.

If Lloyd gets a first look and seems covered, why not just let Brady have him as his secondary target?

Having Wes,Gronk,AHern,Gaffney and LLoyd as well as RB's who can catch out of the backfield should provide for many sleepless nights for opposing DC's.

Can't wait for this season to start :rocker:

That's what training camp and preseason are for, luckily. :)

He's getting open, and Brady is seeing it in film work. For a QB who's all about trust with his receivers, this is a great thing.

He's getting open but only after Brady has moved onto his next target. It isn't great if Brady has to linger on him for too long. Hopefully they build the chemistry where Brady can recognize when he is or isn't open. Right now I wouldn't classify it as great, just hopeful.

If that remains the case after TC and preseason, then I'm sure Brady will alter his progression when it comes to when he looks at Lloyd.

Of course it's great. Lloyd, as has been pointed out time and time again, isn't a guy who cracks open 5+ yards of separation the way Moss could. Lloyd's strength is getting the ball even when the coverage is pretty good. Brady already knows the 'tells' of his other receivers, as far as when it's a safe time to make the throw. He's learning those of Lloyd. It's much better that Brady is the one having to figure something out than if it were the receiver.

What wouldn't be great is if Brady was saying "He'll get the system. He just needs more time.", because being familiar with the system is the edge that Lloyd was supposed to (and apparently does) have in comparison to recent FA WRs.

Your over exaggerating this. He said sometimes, not all the time.

I heard Felger make a dumb comment (shocker) that Brady doesn't like to throw to receivers who are covered.

WTF?

Did he watch the 2011-12 season. Brady threw more guys open the last couple seasons than at any point in his career. He is in such sync with Welker, Hernandez & Gronk that it doesn't matter if the DB is all over them, he will throw him open.

Hopefully this isn't an indictment of the secondary for our upcoming season... ;)

The article also makes me very happy we have such an intelligent QB; it's a nice little window into his thinking process as he works with a new WR, the kinds of things that he has to adjust to.

That he has to adjust to very specific locations that Lloyd wants the ball is pretty amazing to me, given that my accuracy at throwing the football includes a 10-foot window, while Brady is wondering which 1 square foot window he needs to go to. Really just amazing.

No, Brady's seeing in training camp that he will get open in certain coverage situations. The offense isn't based on Brady following a receiver until he gets open, it's based on receivers that get open when and where they are supposed to. This is actually a great sign because brady can throw to a spot knowing Lloyd will get open or protect him, so he can throw to the spot where the receiver is supposed to be, like he can with Branch and Welker.

It's not about "getting open" on this team.

Case in point.

Absolutely. Anyone think the current version of Branch is leaving guys in the dust? His only advantage is knowing where the ball will be and tailoring his route with that in mind.

I really don't know what Lloyd we will see...i think he can be anything.

I expect about 500-600 yards but he is capable of more...he can also end up a dissapointment like Chad.

If you ask me who is the most intriguing player on this years team and the most interesting to watch...it's Lloyd.

The fact that Lloyd beat McCourty in the end zone for a TD in the practice was not that big to me.....everyone beat McCourty last season :)
