Re: TE Bo Scaife signed

Scaife is fullback-size by Pats standards - just 6'3" - 249 lbs. He's like a smurf tight end. Maybe they line Scaife up in the backfield with Gronk, Hernandez, Welker and Lloyd. How do you pass cover that?

Opposing safeties have to be looking at the Patriots and wondering how they don't get killed with the size of the running backs and the depth at Tight End and Wide Receiver.

Re: TE Bo Scaife signed

Quad TE set with 1 RB means that at will, the Pats could create a jumbo run right, or jumbo run left package, and use the other side to attack the air with Gronk/Hernandez. Pick your poison. Stack the box and get burned by our nightmare mismatch tight ends, or drop back into coverage and get gashed and bashed by the run game! Fun!

line up jumbo...

TE Gronk
TE Hernandez
TE Scaife
FB Larsen
RG Ridley
LT Solder
LG Mankins
OC Connolly
RG Waters
RT Vollmer

...and if they stuff the box, audible into an empty set and pass out of it. There is not a defense that can matchup both ways.

Scaife is taller & heavier than Hernandez, but not nearly as athletic. He has a similar build to the one who replaced him at Texas, David Thomas.

Re: TE Bo Scaife signed

If Scaife doesn't work out as the emergency insurance TE, old pal Dan Graham is reportedly about to be released by the Titans per Schefter.

Re: TE Bo Scaife signed

Grahambo might have to wait his turn behind Jake Ballard & the rookie Urban.
The TE depth chart is looking a lot like a casting call, or a waiting room.

Re: TE Bo Scaife signed

Either Fells of Scaife will be gone before the season starts. Flip a coin

Actually, Ive seen more of Scaife than Fells. So I'd choose Fells

Re: TE Bo Scaife signed

This is the perpetual conversation we have every offseason. We think our O is going to be amazing, yet when it matters most, it always lets us down.

If BB actually had a healthy player to sub for Gronk, no way Gronk plays in the SB.

I don't think its even close. Fells is a much better football player than Scaife.
Scaife is also 31 and did not play last year, after 2 years of declining production.
Fells is 29, a better blocker and has shown improvement over the last few years (even if the Tebow factor made his stats not show it).

Re: TE Bo Scaife signed

A mod should update the thread title...

He was in really poor shape. Just a body to fill a gap. Either Fells is going to be ready, and it's been reported his injury was minor, or Graham will be along shortly.

Re: TE Bo Scaife released

The first couple pages confused the crap outta me for a minute
