Poor Matt, never gets to play! And never gets an appreciation thread! ;)

Here's a thread honoring your patience!

Don't worry bud... you're learning from the best. You'll start somewhere, someday. And I'll be rooting you on!

Yeah Matt!

Re: Matt Cassell Appreciation Thread

Sorry, not used to seeing his name on the screen ;) Fixed.

Re: Matt Castel Appreciation Thread

I always wonder how that's gotta feel, watching these close games as a backup to a guy who seems like he's play with a broken arm. In that shot of all the Pats rushing the field after SD missed the field goal, Cassel always stuck out to me. He even gets the shaft from BB's kid in the QB huddle. Hell, even coming into the Titans game this year I kept referring to it as "Matt Cassel vs. the Titans", and he barely got to play.

Well when Walter went on IR we heard about what a stud holder Walter was - Cassel seems to have done a rock solid job at that small, but important ST function.

What's most amazing is that he started behind Palmer and Leinart. Now Brady.

Talk about not-gunna-get-to-play-muchiness.

He could be the second best quarterback in the entire league, and we'd never get to know about it. I really hope he gets his opportunity someday... Pats show him off and then trade him to a team that needs a QB... at least give the guy a chance to compete for a spot somewhere (and get a good trade for it of course!)

Re: Matt Cassell Appreciation Thread

I appreciate that Cassel has not been needed at quarterback. Not to insult him in any way of course. As long as he stays on the bench I will continue to appreciate him.

And He's getting married soon.

Wedding ring-and maybe Bowl ring in Cassel’s future

It’s shaping up to be a rather busy February for No. 2 QB/QT Matt Cassel. In addition to backing up Tom Brady [stats] at Super Bowl XLI (it’s destiny . . . .) Matt will tie the knot with his longtime galpal Lauren Killian in La-La.

Sorry ladies . . . .

Anyway, word from our pigskin snitches is that Stephen Gostkowski’s ever-reliable holder and his fiancee will do the “I Dos” after the football season is over.

Cassel and Lauren have been dating since college - they are both ex-USC Trojans. Cassel, of course, backed up two Heisman Trophy winners, Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. Lauren, a Hillary Swank lookalike, led the 2002 USC Women’s Volleyball team to the NCAA Championship for the first time in 21 years.

She and the rest of the Women of Troy were honored by President Bush at the White House in early 2003. Killian, who was team captain, presented Bush with a volleyball signed by the team.

“It was so surreal,” she told the college newspaper. “(Bush) was so personable he made it really easy to be there.”

Lauren and Matt have flown under the radar for the most part. They’ve been together since meeting at college where Lauren was a year ahead of Matt.

They are both big USC boosters. Matt was a recipient of the school’s Jess Hill Award, named for the school’s former athletic director. Lauren is from a long line of Trojans. Her great-grandfather attended USC, as did two of her grandfathers, one grandmother, three uncles, one aunt and numerous cousins. Her father was a member of the 1977 USC NCAA championship Men’s Volleyball team.

The wedding will be in California near Lauren’s Han**** Park home.

File Under: Trojan Love.

I thought this thread was going to be appreciating his not mucking up any of the kicks like other holders have this season. Imagine the furor that would be going around here if Gostkowski missed anything Sunday?

Yup, a former and maybe yet again to be backup QB/holder in Dallas cost his team a playoff win.

Belichick is on record saying he likes the QB we drafted from USC, thanks. Affordable value I wouldn't be surprised to see someone pay a substantial price for in the next year or so. Considering who his role model and mentor is and whose staff has had a couple of seasons to coach him up on all the little things...

Re: Matt Cassell Appreciation Thread

My thoughts, exactly. He has been a big part of the place kicking team. Give him credit for a perfect hold in a very clutch and high stress moment in San Diego.
Everyone focused on Gotti - imagine if Cassel had pulled a Romo  :bricks:

We used to say the same thing about Rohan. And Michael Bishop before that. Ha!

We should have an annual award. How about the Zolack Award?
