Brace brushes aside media criticism

A motivational speaker he's not. As long as he gets his ass in gear and keeps it up who cares? I don't think it's a brainstorm that very large people often need to push themselves more, as they have a lot to push around. The Vince Wilforks of the world are the exception, not the rule.

There's a job. Take it or someone else will.

Brace went to HS right down the road from me at burncoat..big fan..hes always in the area in offseason

I'm on Brace's side. He didn't get his his roster spot by some kind of trickery. He earned it. That's a big accomplishment, even though he and we all wish he'd have accomplished a lot more beyond that.

Would TFB have said what Brace said? I don't think so.

Tom Brady has said almost those exact words on numerous occasions over the years. There were numerous times, especially during the whole Bledsoe controversy.

Did you even read the article, or did you see "Brace" in an ESPN headline and decide to make a thread to bash him? If you had paid attention, you'd realize that this is exactly the kind of thing he's talking about.

Let's edit his quotes a little to change the context from the media to captain stone's posts...
Because if you make one mistake, or even if you don't do anything, you have [captain stone] on you saying this and that, spitting out, even though [he has] no idea what [he's] talking about. You can get caught up and messed up in that.

I've read some [captain stone posts] and all that crap where [he says] that I'm a bust, some that I'm on the bubble on the roster. But you know what? I realize that I'm still on the roster. I'm on something that [he's] never been on.

I worked hard to get here. [He hasn't] worked like I have. That's the reason why [he's] never going to be where I've been. I never worry about that. That's what I say is the only hard part. Other than that I just treat it like the same flow like I have been since high school and college. You have to work hard and get better if you're playing this game of football.

Hey!! If he was as good at brushing aside Offensive Guards as he is at brushing aside Media Criticism, he wouldn't need to brush aside Media Criticism!! YOWZA, YOWZA!! :singing:

I agree with what he said though...could have put it a little better but I generally agree with his comments. Media slam you, but you've just gotta ignore it and remember what got you to this point and continue on with it and try and improve.

TFB lashed out and attacked the media, claiming he's not a bust and how he's made a roster, which they've never done?

Brace should do his talking on the field, which TFB has consistently done.

It is better to remain silent & be thought a fool, than to open you big fat mouth and remove all doubt, as if there were any in the first place.

You might want to follow your own advice. Creating a thread with the sole purpose of bashing a guy who has not lived up to expectations, but who by all accounts has been a solid team player? Sounds like something that belongs on the Jets' forums.

Brace's comments were taken out of context. The problem is nobody could hear the first part of his statement since his mouth was full of Big Macs as he spoke.

I'll take Love,Pryor and Deaderick pls.

Kinda sounds like 90 percent of the Ocho-related posts on this board.

1) Do we really believe that the media is reasonable source of player evaluation? I think not. It is easy (and most unreasonable) to look to the general media for support of our personal biases.

2) Brace's comments were reasonable. Many here wanted him gone last year, before he was put on PUP and when he came off. Many here though he was a waste of a roster spot. BELICHICK DISAGREED.

3) Many here would cut Brace now. They think that he is useless bust. BELICHICK DISAGREES.

SOME REALITY AS I SEE IT

A) Brace is fighting for a roster spot. That is certainly reasonable, given the addition of Fanene, the return of Pryor and the possibility of a Carter making the team.

B) Brace has been a disappointment as a 2nd round draft choice. That IS NOT relevant at this point. The question the BELICHICK will answer is whether Brace is worth a roster spot as 6th or 7th DL. As I see it we need the help in short yardage situations. Brace has also had some good days at DE.

BOTTOM LINE

Brace is on the bubble in the last year of his contract. There are many other players on the bubble, many in the last year of their contracts. Competition is good. The key is to ignore what we EXPECTED when they were signed and focus on what value they can provide to the 2012 team (and for some future teams). At this point, it makes little difference whether Brace was originally signed in 2nd or 6th round, other than the effect on mythical 2012 cap problems.

Brace's comments were foolishly made, what he's reported as saying in that last paragraph is idiotic. That being said, the general thrust of his comments has validity. Members of the media, and the general 'viewing' public, see what goes on only through a highly filtered lens, and we miss much of what's really going on as a result. That doesn't mean that they/we get it wrong, just that they/we act on incomplete information.

In other words, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
That does not, however, make a broken clock knowledgable about what time it is.

If Brace didn't try to blame the press for pointing out his heretofore obvious failure as a 2nd-round draft pick, then no thread would've been created. Besides, this will likely be the last time I'll have the chance to bash him, before he's released on the final cut-down, unless 4 other DLmen go on IR.

Why do you feel compelled to bash him?

I've said repeatedly that Brace has underwhelmed. He's had a few decent moments, but no one would claim that Brace has produced anywhere near the level expected of a top 40 pick. As MgTeich notes, he's clearly on the bubble. I expect that Pats to keep 6 DT/DEs with Wilfork, Fanene, Love and Pryor probably safe barring injury, which would leave Deaderick, Warren and Brace to fight it out for the last 2 spots. I've consistently had Brace not making the cut in my early roster projections. But I see no reason to bash the guy. He hasn't been a bad egg. He hasn't not worked hard. He hasn't been selfish. He's done everything BB has asked of him without complaining. He just doesn't seem to be very good. That won't be enough for a roster spot, but it's enough for me to think he doesn't deserve to be bashed just for the fun of it.

People bash him for the same reason they bashed Blaine Gabbert after he recently opened his mouth following criticism: no one likes a whiner. Here’s something I’d much prefer to hear out of a Patriot (channeling TFB):

Interviewer - Is it hard being in the NFL?

Ron Brace – It’s extremely demanding, BB expects the best and it’s up to us to deliver. That said, I love playing with these guys and am fortunate to play in the NFL, this is a dream for me.

Interviewer – Are you a bust?

Ron Brace – I don’t think so, I trust BB to make the best decisions for the team and he’s chosen to keep me on the roster for a reason. Things haven’t gone like I would have preferred them to but all I can do is work on being a better player and better teammate.

If Brace said that people would be talking about his great attitude and how they'd be rooting for him.

The real question is whether BB makes a move for Connor Barwin if he hits free agency after the season.

Nothing like over-blowing what was said.
And, yes, TFB said, essentially, the same things back during the whole Bledsoe fiasco. That he'd earned the right to be on the roster and such and that the media didn't know what they were talking about.
