Play where? In place of who? Solely a Mike guy and we have two pretty damn decent proven Mike LBs already, with Hightower in the mix and even Fletcher as a potential player there.

He's probably more valuable than Bobby Carpenter

So he's a hard cut as opposed to an easy cut?

Backup LBs who don't play special teams aren't valuable at all. The Pats have starters and have backups who play on special teams. They don't need Farrior.

I hate the Steelers and anything that was associated with them, but who knows...he could be this team's Junior Seau.

If they are going to sign another player I would prefer it to be a LDE or safety; the Patriots appear to be okay at ILB.

No. Hell no.

This...

No. Feck no.

This...

He'd fit in perfectly ... as a training camp cut.

The team does not need vet leadership at MLB/ILB. Even if Spikes is out for the first 1/2 of the season I rather see Fletcher/Hightower/Mayo at the middle.

No way..........

Former Steelers Linebacker James Farrior's Agent Says 'Waiting For a Championship Opportunity' - Behind the Steel Curtain

A veteran linebacker...a proven asset to his position....a player whose is aged but might still have enough in the tank to give his new team some needed depth.....a player who would like a chance at another championship before hanging it up.

I personally would be interested in Farrior coming to NE as this writer expresses.

Thoughts?

Don't care either way, but WTF is with this Steelers fan/poster down about 10 comments.( Do you think he had a lobotomy or was born this way?)

I HOPE HE DOESN'T GO TO THE PATRIOTS.

JUST LOOK AT WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE OTHER L.B.’s THEY BROUGHT IN AT THE TWILIGHT OF THEIR CAREER.

JUNIOR SEAU ENDS UP KILLING HIMSELF AND TEDDY BRUSCHI ENDS UP GETTING CANCER

With apologies to Lilloyd, Triggerfish and Dino, these are the type of comments that make me dislike the Steeler fan base as much or more than any other fan base.

Also why are we giving credence to an article written by a site that appears to be nothing more than a Bleacher Report copycat? If it was written by somebody at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette I would understand the relevance, but this is simply some Steeler fan who is just throwing stuff against the wall. His entire theory is based on nothing more than the fact that the Patriots have signed other veteran free agents over the years - so they are therefore going to sign Farrior as well. :ugh:

Brilliant!

Steelers and their fans are the worst....classless douchenozzles....

I don't like Farrior at all, but heck, if BB decides to sign him, I will become a fan, LOL. Seriously, I don't like him and hope we don't get him. Of course, there is always the Mike Vrabel precedent...

I've posted this before: there are a ton of Steelers fans out there, so just on a statistical basis you're going to have a percentage that are clueless/classless/uninformed. No point I guess rehashing old ground--but my thoughts on the matter are included in my posts in this thread: http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/10/731226-steelers-fans-most-arrogant-nfl.html

That said, as you say the notion referenced in this particular thread isn't really an article, it's more a guy with an internet connection and a blog, who probably doesn't know nearly as much about the Patriots' situation at LB as you all do.

re/ Farrior: he's a tremendous leader and competitor, and actually a guy that--if he didn't previously play for the Jets and Steelers--you'd probably view as fitting perfectly in with your tradition of veteran, intelligent, savvy LBs....IF he were 5 years younger. The problem is, Farrior can't run or cover anymore and has been routinely exposed in pass coverage over the past couple of years. He was platooned for large stretches with Larry Foote in 2011. The sad truth is he's old and is often a liability on the field.

Frankly, as much as I respect Farrior and what he's done to help our franchise (he's arguably the best FA acquisition we've had), I wouldn't recommend him to *any* team, except maybe one with a ton of young players that needed essentially a "player/coach" to ride the pine behind younger starters. You guys have enough leadership in your locker room that this sort of thing doesn't seem necessary.
