It is highly debatable which player deserves to be the highest paid player in the NFL. On the other hand considering the Saints off-season as well as how much Brees means to the team on the field, it is easy to make the case that Brees means more to the Saints than any other player does to any other team.

If I was a Saints fan I would really have to be wondering why the team hasn't made a deal happen. The only thing I can figure is that the cap hasn't risen as expected, and they see some of those other deals that Brees and his agent are likely basing their contract demands on as being vastly overpriced. If the Saints give in to what Brees is looking for it could make fielding a competitive team around him problematic. So in that regard it's kind of a catch-22, damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

GB didn't need Rogers when he was out Matt Flynn broke all the team records for a game.

Lots of backups like Scott Mitchell, Rob Johnson, etc have come in and done a nice job for a short period of time and then received a big pay day and bombed.

I think both sides need to give a little and just get this done.

I agree, QB's get all the money, but if you look at AP, he's also a model of production. Its hard to figure out. But just as QB's stand Drew is still second to Tom, maybe. Still not sure of that because of his interception record.

I poled most of our sites and Drew is considered the face of the Saints, by fans.
But Im sure a similar poll would say Brad is the Face of the NE Patriots.
When Brady was injured you were still effective. Im not sure we could win as much as you did without Drew. Chase is ok, probably one of the best 2nd string QB's, but our offense is complicated. WE definitely can't with the defenses we have had sense 2006. We have to make 30 points a game just to cover their mistakes. I think the Saints would have been competitive with SP, but not special if Brees had not signed. So maybe there is a case we need him more than anyone else.

Oh, you mean like PM kind of wreaked the colts because of his price tag, yep, worried about that. Not worried until SP goes, he seems to find players that no one else sees, but later it would be a problem. Brees wants a lifetime contract which means we might be stuck with an aging QB with a high cap hit, and no SP to find talent. That has paper bags written all over it.

I think we are less worried about him signing than anyone. He's made it clear he wants to retire here. To us this is Condon's doing. He's a stick, money grabbing, business man. Condon will drag this to the last second and drag the dimes from Benson. Its how he works.

csc is not usually a good source , but this is pretty good. Still confused as to if Brees deserves the highest money, and then I wonder when it will end.

IF Brees gets $20 million a year, well wait. When PM and others do there next contracts it will be $21 million, 22, 23, 24 , 30, is it ever going to stop?
I don't think it will.

I guess I haven't been following the story closely enough to know that Condon is Brees' agent.

Stop right there; there is no need for any further analysis as to why the two sides have not yet reached an agreement.

except for this time Condon holds every single card.

Brees just broke the yardage record.
Brees made the saints team not a total joke.
Brees won a SB.
Brees is definately one of the best qb's right now.
Brees already was injured severely playing under a tender.

The saints franchise looks to be a total and complete failure right now.
the saints franchise will absolutely not win without Brees.

Basically the saints will go right back to being one of the worst teams in the NFL without Drew Brees, and the fans will all walk away completely because it was by the saints ownerships choice this happened.

exactly where is there any leverage by the saints organization? The have to pay Drew Brees anything he wants or they are back to being total losers again.

This would be like BB not paying Brady.

Understand me, Im not trying to be rude, but are your saying Brees is the only talent on this team and the world falls apart if he leaves ?

SP makes no difference, and can't find another QB?

Yeah, brees has us by the balls. But with SP as coach we go from top 5 to being 32 without Brees ? Im not sure I buy that. He's a pretty good coach. But Brees like Brady is one of a kind.

You don't mistreat a qb like Brees and ever get another one. That offense is predicated totally on what Brees does. Just like the Pats offense is totally predicated on what Brady does.

Not to mention if you let Brees go, why would anyone with any talent choose to go to New Orleans, knowing they won't get paid?

Now they might not be the worst team immediately, but they slowly would go back to what they use to be, as they would never get anyone else to sign with them.

And if they don't sign Brees no chance of Peyton staying. The odds are against Peyton finding another qb anywhere near as talented as Brees, and without that his system won't function.

And any team is only a year or two away from obscurity in the current NFL. Getting good is hard, getting bad is easy. Just look at the Jets.

It would be like the Pats letting Brady go. You can't possibly make up for that.

Good point Why?P. Hadn't thought that if they mess up the Brees deal, not a lot of elite QB's would consider being in NO. SP is only signed until 2015, so we could go from mediocre to bad really quick. LOL, the jets.
The nightmare situation is Brees walks and we end up with whoever bombs as QB on the Jets. Tebow seems like a nice enough guy, but is horrible , and Sanchez would never be accepted here.
Im sure we would break out the bags and call them Sancheads :)

Should he be? No.

Will he be? Likely.

The cards are all on his side. The turmoil going on in that franchise is already at a boil, if Brees sits (as he should if his ego requires him to be the highest paid a la Peyton) I expect everything will go in to complete meltdown mode.

If I could make 15 mil a year and have a better team, or make 23 mil a year and have less of a team, I'd go for the former as I am a team guy. However, that's a ridiculous amount of money, could I really turn down 8 extra million dollars a year just for a chance at trophies and rings? Can't buy a yacht with a ring!
