Re: Wrongly Convicted Player Relesed After 5 Years In Prison

hey, why no give him his shot..think about it...he HAS to be a better prospect than Brian Bosworth

Would be great even if he gets a tryout!

Just hope he can live a normal life after being let out!

You have to wonder about the effect on his psyche after doing 5 years for no crime...

Hope he recovers and makes it, hope the false accuser does time for her wrongdoing..

Sign him. Spite is a great motivator.

The Bengals were interested until they found out he was really innocent.

Let's hope there is a book and a movie. Lots of lessons to be learned.

A paltry sum for losing 5 years of your life in prison...
A West Australian man Andrew Mallard was imprisoned for 11 years after being wrongfully convicted of murder. It was investigated by the WA Commission on Crime and Corruption and found that two police officers and a senior prosecutor deliberately concealed evidence that would have demonstrated his innocence. Mallard was paid a 3.25 million dollar settlement for his 11 years in jail.

Interestingly, the investigation pointed the murder toward a man named Simon Rochford who upon hearing the news committed suicide whilst he was incarcerated.

Unfortunately, there is far too many of these cases out there.

Maybe the evidentiary level should be a bit higher to charge someone, even for rape?

There is no crime that I could just walk into a police station and get a person arrested for solely on my statement.

But for rape, an illiterate, lying, conniving, mass breeding, welfare collecting, 16 year old street tramp can get you some serious time just on her 'word'.

What was the evidence that made the defense lawyer advise a ple bargain? There apparently was no sex, so no DNA, no bodily fluids, no bruises, nada.

But the police brought this to the lawyer industry anyway and away Mr Banks went.

Lawyer prosecutors prosecuted with no evidence. Lawyer defense counsel advised a plea bargain without looking at the evidence. Lawyer judge, the supposed last line of defense, sentences, no questions asked.

Lawyer for the mother of the 'victim' sues. Lawyer for the city settles.

All this with not one shred of evidence. Scary!

There are many more culpable people here than just the wench.

Now the same adults who used the statement of a 16 year old to put away an innocent man are looking at prosecuting the accuser.

None of those in power here probably have even the slightest belief that they are the people really responsible for this whole travesty.

If an accuser could get the same time as a rapist, if convicted, I think that would help out.

If the cops, DA's and judges had to do the same time that an innocent person did there would be no innocent people behind bars.

You gotta give credit to the muslims though..**** like that never happens over there...that **** ***** would've been stoned to death and gotten what she deserves.

The basketball player Juwon Howard is one of the rare examples of an athlete falsely accused of a sexual assault who successfully sued the lying accuser for defamation of character.

give this guy a tryout!

You're an idiot, nice try though.

I wonder if he might have a case against the city/police/DAs etc, or if his plea makes this impossible.

I've gotten to know a man in our city that was wrongly imprisoned for 8 years in the 90s for a rape he did not commit. I first got to know him before I knew his story. My impression of him was that he was just a nice, humble man approaching 60, always broke, but always smiling. One day a co-worker took me aside and said, "Do you know his story?" and when I researched his name I found all kinds of links to the Innocence Project, Johnny Cochran, Today Show appearances...and a similar story to this kid - just an appalling lack of evidence for conviction. Long story short: He received a multi-million $ settlement from the city.

(I've actually grown to have a lot of respect for the Innocence Project, and I think I read they helped Brian Banks in his case.)

I've talked with him about it a few times since. His face darkens, but the only real sign of bitterness is when he refers to "what those people did to me". "What those people did to me" is about as much detail as he usually wants to share. The guy is just an incredible inspiration to me. I can't even imagine spending 8 years in prison for a rape (of ALL things) I had nothing to do with.

What happened to "evidence" in rape cases? Beyond a Reasonable Doubt? What a disgrace it is, that such LACK of evidence can send people away. Jesus, society is getting so fu(ked up.

Of course she was "welfare collecting." Every crime committed on earth is by someone who is "welfare collecting." Good one.
