Ty Warren not happy with Broncos request to cut his pay

I agree with the captain. He's clearly going to be cut. Its not a matter of if, but when. There's no harm in bringing him back in and kicking the tires. Now that he's a college graduate he might be smart enough to realize that $1MM is more than he'd make for working 6 months anywhere else.

Of course he'd have to be health and in great shape. We heeded to draft a 3-4 DE, and we didn't. Now if Ty is healthy we can have one we know can do the job, on the cheap for a year, and draft one next year. For Ty will be a chance to come home and chase one more ring before moving on to the next phase of his life.....graduate school.

Heh

Were he cut I'd be up for a return look-see at low $. Could likely be better that the other same named geezer DE on the roster.

Would he not be better than Pryor,Brace,G. Warren or Love?

I think he would still be 2nd best on the DL...But only if he was 100% healthy and was in top condition should he ever be considered if he gets cut.

Where you are going wrong here is that they are honored. The problem isn't that either party isn't honoring the contract they signed. They are. You don't like the language? Easy, don't sign it and go somewhere else for another contract you do like.

I have a suggestion for the bleeding hearts out there that always seem to think these guys are being taken advantage of unfairly by the meany owners: Learn what a contract is. It's an agreement by two parties that can and will be enforced legally if need be.

Agreed. The basic negotiating tactic between owners and players is to be as aggressive and assertive as possible. Teams need to manage their salary cap and players need to collect as much income as they can during a limited career. There are obviously grey areas in this for some players (sorta like Tom or Peyton). There's little irony or surprise to me that players will hold out for more money than their current contract provides, given the fact that they can be cut on the other end of it without much/any say.

depends on how much his skills had diminished. I'd hate to let one of the young guys go and wind up somewhere else only to have warren get hurt before the end of training camp.

besides....I think marcus fortson will be better than any of the young guys or warren.

Ty Warren missed the last two seasons with injuries, and made getting his degree a higher priority than being in a condition to allow him to earn his enormous NFL salary.

Let some other team pay this "hanger on". The Pats already did that last year with Ellis. Let's take our chances with a younger, hungrier player.

Want no part of Ty Warren, most overrated since Richard Seymour. I remember him sitting out offseason stuff to further his education and then immediately getting injured. G-bye!

Richard Seymour is going to end up in the Hall Of Fame. I'm not really sure how "overrated" is supposed to enter that picture. Was he considered the best to ever play the game by someone you once spoke to, or something like that?

I concur about Richard Seymour going to the HOF. But Bill has enough CAP money for one more key signing, or hasn't anyone noticed.

How much do you think it would cost to trade for Richard Seymour? Now that he is 33-34 years old, and the end is insight for a fabulous career?

A fourth rounder and $6-7 million a year for two years, maybe in a Superbowl, to make the HOF a certainty?

Wouldn't you rather have a Seymour ? :snob:

Why does it feel like we're going back and forth over a pharmaceutical company Warren & Warren?

TY wasn't overrated. He played the LDE spot which is more of a run stuffing spot than the RDE side.

He also had a damn good season in 2006 and 2007.

Right team, wrong player. Desmond Bryant started at DE for the Raiders after Shaughnessy was hurt. 6'5" 290 out of Harvard. Has played both DT and DE. Good run stuffer and had 5 sacks. Would look good at one of the Pats 3-4 DE's, but has also played both DT and DE in the 4-3. RFA tendered at a 2nd round level. The Pats could offer a decent contract and structure it right and the Raiders would have trouble matching. Nobody likes the Pats 2nd round picks anyways(sarcasm). I like Seymour but this kid could be a great acquisition for the future.

Ty Warren not on board with Broncos’ request to cut his pay | ProFootballTalk

May come to a point where the Broncos simply release him..they aren't going to honor the contract money they originally offered him.

I don't know if Belichick would be interested in taking him back, perhaps for a $2M one year deal, but that's too high IMO.

After a severe injury and a year away from the game and being in his 30s,not sure if he's worth anything more than vet minimum now.

safe to say he did not get a degree in economics.

What are you guys thinking? Sign him for whatever, just don't guarantee it.

It is the off season. He is either worth it or a camp casualty.

Richard Seymour is no certainty for the Hall of Fame. It is hard to get in. Listed below are the fifteen defensive linemen who played at least one season in the 1980s or later. Only two are in it who played after 2000. Seymour will be in the discussion, but he is not a lock like Brady. He may end up like Ben Coates, who, as good as he was, has not be admitted.
Elvin Bethea (DE) 1968-1983
Fred Dean (DE) 1975-1985
Richard Dent 1983-1997
Chris Doleman (DE, LB) 1985-1999
Joe Greene (DT) 1969-1981
Dan Hampton (DT-DE) 1979-1990
Cortez Kennedy (DT) 1990-2000
Howie Long (DE) 1981-1993
Alan Page (DT) 1967-1981
John Randle 1990-2003
Lee Roy Selmon (DE) 1976-1984
Bruce Smith 1985-2003
Randy White (DT) 1975-1988
Reggie White (DT-DE) 1985-1998, 2000
Jack Youngblood (DE) 1971-1984

Evidently, Word hasn't gotten around.

The Patriots no longer play a "34" Base.

Between the 245, the 425, the 335, and other Sets...the 344 will probably get about 18% Market Share.

Ergo: Warren's usefulness around here...is extinct.

That ship has sailed, AZ.

There's an excellent chance that "all this cap money" everyone keeps talking about (which will likely be anywhere from 8-12 million after rookie signings) will simply get carried over again into next season to help with the plethora of young draft picks whose rookie deals are expiring in the next 2 yrs.

But to answer the question--yes many would still love to have Seymour, but there are several reasons why that is no longer a possibility IMO.

You guys can remember Seymour as fondly as you want but to me he'll always be the guy that held out,got paid, and got lazy. And as far as Ty Warren goes he NEVER lived up to his draft stock and the last couple years he played disinterested ala Seymour.
