Pretty good money for a late round pick. :D

Glad to get the signings started!

Good thing, I was expecting a holdout.

Good start, get him moved to Foxboro and start working out with the team...

Certainly better than last year...

Why ppl are so pumped-up with that contract?

I just don't get Belechick. I would have made wrapping up Ebert and Ebner a priority over this.

There's only so much wiggle room on contracts for draftees (guaranteed money seems to be about it?). I'm sure they made offers to all draftees, he's just the first one to accept.

It's all slotted so as more deals are done within a round your deal becomes crystalized. More than half of those drafted in the second are now under contract. If there are any issues to be dealt with it's the guys at the end of the draft who will take it on the chin because of the pool limits.

Only a half dozen or so first rounders are done, and I believe 8 teams have everyone signed. But compared to the way it used to drag on...there was usually only one guy officially undercontract by this point in time, they will likely all be done by the end of this month. What that means is rookies will be in town, settled in housing they can now afford, working out regularly with their veteran teamates in the off season conditioning program and attending all the OTA's.

In the past most just signed their waiver to attend rookie camp and then went home and waited and worked out on their own sometimes until the first week of camp was in the books because agents and teams were haggling out complicated deals designed to push the envelope. And because teams routinely give their coaching and FO staff 2-3 weeks off prior to gearing up for TC. Rookies see nothing beyond having their expenses covered during mandatory rookie mini camp until their deal is done. And having been away from football and training for track and field since January it's no wonder so many of them start out battling injuries. The new CBA should buy rookies and teams at least 6 weeks of structured, supervised football conditioning and activity to hopefully mitigate some of those.

I won't be surprised if several more contracts get done by the time this mini camp is over.

However according to PFT there could be a slight sticking point that might delay the signing of our first 2 picks. Last season all the picks from 1-20 got deals that guaranteed all 4 years. After that the deals only guaranteed the first 3 years. At 21 and 25, that puts both our picks in an area agents will be trying to push the envelop and get their guys that extra year's guarantee. Unfortunately the Pats aren't exactly known for their patience with agents "pushing the envelop".

So while I think we will see the last 5 picks under contract over the next 2 weeks, the first 2 might be still negotiating into June. It won't be about the money, that's pretty much predetermined, its going to be about the number of guaranteed years.

BTW- anyone know who the agents are for Jones and Hightower.
