Patriots sign former Colts RB Joseph Addai

yowza... like we dont have enough roster competition as it is.

Evidently Peyton Manning was the source. Strange days.

Give us all the Colts.

WOW, I never thought to see Addai in a Patriots uniform. At least we have a Veteran RB to mold these yougins!

He was actually pretty good when healthy. And he had to pass block and he can catch out of the backfield. And he's used to working with a cerebral QB in a no huddle format.

He is a do your job no nonsense ego at the door kind of player, had to be in that role in Indy.

Kevin Faulk can't be pleased.

Does this mean the base case is 5 roster spots for RB + FB?

He is an excellent signing, really good 3rd down back and good deep in the red zone too.

I'd be shocked if we had more than five backs on the roster, especially with all the wide receivers we've signed. McDaniels' last two years here, we finished the season with four, and five backs, respectively.

would have preferred hightower but i guess we already have one of those on the team.

BB is really throwing everything at the wall to come up with the best team top-bottom.

Not sure Addai was my first choice (i was kind of ambivalent between about 3-4 of these experienced FAs); but he can definitely compete. I still kind of hope that on week1 both him and Faulk are unemployed. (not that I dont love faulk for all he did); but more that it would mean the vereen/ridleys have finally taken up the mantel and shown something.

I like the fact that he can catch balls and block....and yes....I cant imagine BB saying ....hey hightower 1 or hightower rookie :p

Wow! One more excellent signing. Another offensive weapon who will, in addition, ground our young running backs. Glad he's now on our side.

That's a nice solid insurance/camp-competition pickup. No offense intended to Mr. Addai, but I'll be rooting hard for him NOT to make the roster, as a good sign about the young'uns.

I don't get what part of if you are counting on a position for consistent contribution you better be sure it has depth some of you aren't grasping. You seem to want them to run the ball more.

I can't really see a scenario where Faulk is still a Pat this season. He did not have a big impact last year and is getting old and slow.

Umm...ok, I'll admit it, I have NO clue what this post means. As far as I can tell everybody thinks Addai is a pretty good signing.

5 is surely the cap.

The question is whether we really go that high, or stick at 4.

Having only 3 TEs does make an FB seem more plausible. Well, that and all the FB signings. :)
