Nice article on Mallett and his offseason:

Patriots backup QB displays new polish - BostonHerald.com

“I just wanted to lose a little body fat. I think I lost 5 percent from last year. I wanted to get a little bigger, put more muscle on,” Mallett said after the event. “I feel like I’m quicker on my feet. So I’m just getting ready to go for these OTAs and camp and have a little fun.”

God i'm gonna hate the day when we are forced to come to a decision about him.

He talks about having "fun" at OTA's and workouts. Then he says stuff like:

“I’ll do whatever they need me to do...I’m part of this team right now. Hopefully, I’ll be this fall. So that’s what I’m looking forward to...I got a feeling I’ll be able to prove myself one day...Until then, i just got to keep working hard and do my job.”

Sounds like his off-season program included daily jugs of Kool-Aid.

It's tough having 2 potential starting QB's backing up Brady. Seems like a wasted roster spot unless you can get something for one of them. The competition to be the #2 QB will be intense.

Keep your nose clean and learn the playbook. Let's see the arm and brain work together this spring. :)

It's an interesting predicament when you have the three best Quarterbacks in the AFC East all occupying the same depth chart. ;)

huh?

worry about keeping your own nose clean.......he's been a model citizen since he's been here.......

truthfully, only one backup has starter potential......it ain't hoyer

or maybe he was like that from the moment he was drafted......

LOL......he'll be starting when brady retires in 2-3 years. If Aaron rodgers could wait, so can Mallett

I thought he'd be a great fit in Cleveland. Before you say WCO, Brandon Weeden isn't exactly nimble. Mallett had a year under his belt learning an NFL system. Is 6 years younger. And, played better in college. He's a much better prospect than Weeden. They used a 1st round pick on him. I think BB would have taken their 2nd rounder for Mallett if it was offered.

Mallett has a ++ arm, if he put in the work and learns the game he is who I want replacing Brady n 3-4 years when Brady retires.

He ic certainly saying all the right things and putting in the offseason work.

I hope it goes down as smoothly...i'm still gonna hate that day.

Hey, it beats the JUGGS machine. :)

Gotta agree with random here: if the "decision" is that Mallett becomes the starter because TFB is retiring, that day's still gonna suck a lot.

Yep the day when the GOAT retires is not going to be good the question is how do you minimize the loss (and hopefully) continue to field a championship contending team.

Someday all players retire no matter how great.

nothing you can do about the inevitable......if that weren't the case, we'd still have andre tippett in his prime

It will be a sad day when Mr Bundchen hangs it up regardless who takes the reigns.

Gosh, that's not what Bill says...but then again what does he know.

The one thing I don't get about you is the overweaning need to inject a Gisele reference into every Brady discussion... Because you otherwise seem like a pretty savvy and well adjusted fan...

Does anyone else thinks he looks ill in those 2 pictures? He just looks far too skinny for his size.

Back the point of his game though: If he learns how to control that cannon of an arm he's got and learns when to use it and when make a touch pass, he will be a very, very good QB. From what I've seen of him in college and pre-season when he panics or can't see an open receiver he tends to "do a Favre" and just back his arm.
