Connor Barwin 3 years later

I remember, new england fans were screaming for us to draft connor barwin in the 2nd round in 2009. We ended up taking Darius Butler and Ron Brace instead :bricks: Connor Barwin recorded 12 sacks last year, guy is a stud. I gotta give you guys credit, you were right about this guy.

Glad Belichick stepped up and got Chandler Jones and Dont'a Hightower this year. I smell another superbowl coming for us!

I do, I imagine many others on the board do as well. We enjoy evaluating players and it's interesting to see how such a high profile binkie turns out. One extra thing about the Barwin evaluating is that he lost a year due to a freak injury, so he reached his current level of development with 1 less year than he's been in the league, making him even more impressive.

this makes no sense.....barwin was drafted AFTER brace and butler......and sorry to players who cannot get on the field are not worth more than one player who can

Butler & Brace stink, Barwin is very solid and getting better. Give me 1 good player over 2 scrubs any day of the week.

BB not taking Barwin was part of the philosophy he was strict to follow at the time. BB felt 2nd round was too valuable to risk on a maybe at one facet of the defense. BB wanted jacks of all trades (consequently, masters of none) who could turn into solid players across the board. He wasn't interested in landing guys who were boom or bust athletes who were likely going to be one-trick ponies. The league changes, and so do the smart decision makers.

I don't doubt that BB saw the potential in Barwin, but he wanted a more versatile guy. I'm pretty sure he'd take four Mike Vrabels before he took one Lamar Woodley.

I'm still pissed about taking Bob Cryder over Ozzie Newsome in 1978. We wouldn't have won any Super Bowls when Ozzie played. But, he's a hall of famer. But, I'll bet he would be our GM now and we would have 1 Super Bowl. Instead of 3....uhhhh...nevermind

yes....because a 2nd rounder is much more prudently used on a really fat guy who can't play as an insurance policy. even though you already did not have a decent OLB to speak of....

I thin kthe reality was that the pats FO just didn't think he could play even though he showed the kind of versatility the pats admire

Seriously, it never ceases to amaze me as to why so many people (both fans and media) seem to have this expectation that every single draft pick should be perfect, and that nobody drafted later should ever turn out to be a better player.

Do we nitpick over every incomplete pass that is thrown, or god forbid, an interception - and rehash it years later?

Do we dissect every time a baseball batter makes an out, a pitcher gives up a base hit, a goalie fails to make a save, or a basketball player misses a shot with the same scrutiny as evaluating an NFL team's draft pick with the wonderful aid of hindsight?

Why is there so much focusing solely on the 'could'a had this guy' that followed while conveniently omitting both the teams own other good picks as well as all the misses that every other team had?

Why is there this expectation that every NFL draft pick should be perfect, but we don't apply that same standard to anything else, whether it be the NFL or any other sport?
