Is this your last year of potential hope for him? Or he is an official "bust". We drafted him pretty highly back in 2009. He is going on his 4th year

Well if I were him I'd be planning to pass the conditioning run day 1. Clearly this is a make or break camp for him.

This guy has been so disappointing. He has the natural ability to be a starting caliber DT/DE but so far he just hasn't had the work ethic to reach his full potential.

Yeah, the work ethic to stay healthy is a pita to maintain

He's already a bust- IMO he's more likely to get cut before the season than to be a meaningful contributor. If he does make the roster, it will be largely because his position happens to be the one where we have the least depth, but even then I wouldn't be surprised to see a JAG/other team's cut come in and beat him out for a spot.

Chad Jackson is a bust, Brace is a guy that can't stay healthy.

Other then Vince he is our most talented DT. I think he would have a better opportunity used as our 3-4 nose guard and bouncing Vince to RE as the attacker or LE against running teams.

I don't think Brace has the agility to play end. Love is to small to play any 3-4 position so Brace is really somebody we need to show up this year.

Actually, Chad Jackson was both a bust and a guy who couldn't stay healthy (hamstring and ACL injuries).

Brace has had 3 years to show. If the Patriots can find a veteran placeholder or two, Brace will likely be looking for a new employer soon.

He has had flashes ..but the writing is on the wall. Its put up or you re gone.

I sort of had some thought that potentially BB basically shut down players like Brace, Pryor and Cunningham last year because he saw them as good fits for our 3-4 based on there play in 2010 and felt it would be defermental to there progress to have them attempt to play in a 4-3 because they were such young players?

He was able to fill there roles with bridge players like Carter and Anderson, and based on the fact he made no attempt to draft a big DT it would lead me to believe he must feel he has something in Brace, Deadrick and Pryor.

Just a thought could be way off, but Brace and Cunningham were both impressive at times in 2010 and we now view them both as busts but look how quickly BB shut them down it's like he didn't want to mess with there 3-4 progress and decided to basically red shirt them.

DTs better than Brace:

Vince Wilfork
Kyle Love
Myron Pryor
Gerard Warren

Intriguing rookie that could be worth keeping over him: Marcus Forston

Brace will be sent packing.

Excellent sum-up..... Great post!

Brace has looked best as a 34 DE.
Love is big enough to play any 34 DL spot. He is TOO big/slow to play DE.

How is Pryor better than Brace? Brace plays better, and is healthier.

Love lacks the length for DE being 6-1 and 310 is a bit undersized at NT.

As I said I would like to see Brace at the nose, Wilfolk moving around. Hard to say he's looked best at DE when we haven't even seen Jim any place else.

I view Brace as a 330 pound healthy scratch deadweight, what did he do last year at all? Pryor is made of glass but is a worth a spot as an interior pass rusher if healthy.

The team is low on 3-4 DEs, but we still have Deaderick and Fanene, and the position may be less important in this hybrid/sub package defense.

You are pimping a guy who played 9 games in 2 years, and as a supposed pass rush specialist has 2 1/2 sacks in his entire career?
Brace has played well when he has played. Far better than Pryor. For some reason though, playing welll hasn't helped Brace get on the field more. Something is amiss. He is an enigma. But Myron Pryor is certainly not a better player.

Regardless of how the league keeps moving more to a passing league, you still need a base defense. The 'hybrid' defense was a 43, and according to BB was installed because there was not enough time to get the more complex 34 in.
34 DEs are still needed.

He played DT last year, and he has played on the nose.

By the way when did it become the trend to call height length?
