Sorry, but seriously, what does his coach know? We have many draft experts right here who apparently researched his game tape extensively prior to the draft despite the fact that he wasn't invited to the combine and wasn't listed in any of the draft guides. These guys really do there homework and have apparently studied extensively and analyzed every player in college football, and they know what Belichick and his staff clearly don't, that Tavon sucks. Mel may not have researched Tavon, but our very own draft gurus clearly have, and have shared their insights on him based on their extensive knowledge of his play, we shouldn't take issue with their research and findings.

Personally I'm tired of hearing how "versatile" Wilson is. Christ, I was freakin' versatile. I played DE, NT, and MLB in college, and OLB and S after. I was damned versatile. One small problem. I wasn't GOOD ENOUGH to play on the next level. So I don't want to hear how "versatile Wilson is. I want to hear how good a football player he is.

Would make as much sense as grasping to the negative opinion of someone who, by his own admission, knows nothing about the kid because he wasn't at the combine.

Personally I'm in the wait and see camp. Maybe we reached, maybe he turns out to be defensive rookie of the year. I don't know enough about him. All I know is those who have worked with him are very positive about him, and BB must value his ability highly to draft him when he did. That's enough for me to hold off and give the kid a chance before I start writing him off.

Kiper doesn't know what the hell he is talking about and that is clear from his record, using him as an expert is a joke.

It doesn't matter what the gurus and experts and talking heads say abbout any player, what matters is how the team feels about him and how well he plays when he is here. Vollmer was completely off the radar when they picked him and everyone shrieked and railed about it as a huge reach, wasn't even invited to combine.............we all saw how that turned out. every team has hits and misses and we have no idea whether Wilson can play in the NFL or not but he sure as hell deserves a chance to show what he can do before being called "garbage," which is what has been done here.


Much as I love the draft the level of pretense and arrogance from the self proclaimed draftniks has reached a level of absurdity that i never imagined it could. The Maddenites, and fantasy GM's and draftniks honestly believe they know more, are better equipped to judge players, and could do a better job than a franchise that it on an historic run of success, it just doesn't get any more ludicrous than that. Seriously these people should have their heads examined because they have really lost touch with reality.


Love the draft, develop your favorites and do your mocks, watch it in progress and root for your picks and be disappointed when they pass them by, all of that is great, but actually claiming you know more and could do better is well beyond stupidity and into the realm of psychosis.


Here's a hint, just because you won your fantasy league it doesn't make you Bill Walsh. Oh that's right, he sucked too.

Nice read. One phrase stands out:

The Pats clearly seem to be looking for that kind of guy. We know that Pat Chung, Sergio Brown, Josh Barrett and James Ihedigbo are emphatically NOT that kind of guy. Moving Devin McCourty to FS solved the problem, but at a cast. The signing of Steve Gregory and the drafting of Wilson and Alfonzo Dennard give the Pats 3 opportunities to find that kind of a guy. If any one is successful, the secondary will be vastly improved in 2012.

Draft experts base their opinions on tape. Of course they have seen Wilson play, and based on that, they gave him a 7th round grade. BB interviewed the kid and had private workouts with him, and based on that and tape, drafted him in the 2nd.

And we shouldn't take anything from his coach comments, of course he would have only nice things to say about him, he coached him for 4 years.

I'm not defending Belichick's choice of Wilson I honestly don't know how good he is and have never seen him play, what I am defending is Belichick's right and ability to make the pick, and believe his knowledge of the player is far more extensive than those criticizing the pick. Like everyone else i said WTf and was dismayed by the chocie, and I would have taken about 100 other players if I were making the choice, but like all those criticizing it I don't know jacksh.t and i'm willing to give the Patriots staff the benefit of the doubt, as all they have done is build the best franchise of this era.
So everyone can take what Saban has to say about his player's and quote it and use it as proof of how good a pick they are but if it happens with a chpoice the draftniks hate then it is worthless. Go figure?

This is exactly how i see it as well, just like Mankins and Vollmer Belichick knew another team was ready to move on them and made his move, the same can be said for both trades up in the first, as Belichick would have sat tight had he believed he could do so and get the guys he really wanted. unlike the experts here and draft gurus Belichick does not have a pre-made list of who will go where that he can build a team position by position by, he has to make decisions in real time based upon his best information and insight, and he's brilliant at it, despite his misses, which absolutely every team and GM have. there isn't anyone else i would want in charge of a team and draft, and Patriot fans are going to rue the day he calls it quits and look back on this era as the golden years of Patriots football.
