Jabar Gaffney released. Will we sign him?

I think the better question is, will he sign with us? ****loads of veteran receivers in camp. He may have perceive better opportunities, and may get more money, elsewhere.

only if it's for the league minimum with 0 incentives and signing bonus

Yeah, but other than Welker and Lloyd, none of them are really roster locks. Not even Branch at this point.

Wasn't he released because of some off the field problems recently? I find it hard to believe they would get rid of their leading receiver purely because of the new young guys unless precipitated by an outside issue; his bizarre twitter rants (which he claims were the result of a hack) may prove to be just that.

Of course, if all of those issues are smoothed over, then bring him in. Let's get the gang back together! :singing:

Come on, Bill.....

You need this one. ;)

THE BAAAAAND!!!!

Jabar Gaffney has been the most overlooked WR the Patriots have had. Overlooked, somewhat ironically, until *after* he was gone. Then, we wanted him back, as we should have...

In 2006, it seems like he didn't get nearly enough reps until the playoffs (where he was big in the divisional game)
In 2007, he essentially got overlooked and replaced in the first 8 games due to our FA splurge; until he proved to be better than Stallworth
In 2008, he had that one game where he dropped a key pass, and was chided a little too hard by fans

In 2009 it wasn't even funny how badly we needed another notable WR to keep our offense from being totally predicable(Moss deep, Welker checkdown), exactly as Belichick described in that NFL-N doc

I was just going to post this, I really like Jabar Gaffney and agree there are only two WR in our corps that he isn't an upgrade over. That being said, the guy is going through a rough time in his life and is anybody else worried about his current mental state considering the circumstances.

Bring him back! ! ! He was clutch and Brady and him have a great chemistry. I would take him over Gonzalez, Stallworth, or Ochocinco any day.

Dump Stallworth and sign Gaffney. Gaffney supplanted Stallworth in 2007. Why not do it again?

Right now, Gaffney would be third on the Pats' depth chart.

I think the fact that Moss is no longer on the team makes it entirely possible both could make the roster and would play different roles, if Gaffney signs that is.

Have we signed him yet?

No need to dump anyone right now, but we should sign him. Looking back, Gaffney did supplant Stallworth, but the two really filled one position in a way. Stallworth still has a role that can fill a niche on this team - deep threat and bubble screens.

When the Giants pass rush was at its fiercest at the end of the half in SB42, it was a bubble screen to Stallworth that got things going and gave us some breathing room. According to Brady and McD, Moss was open for an easy TD on the play that ended in a fumble, so imagine things going different, and Stallworth being the spark for it.

I've proven bias on this issue, but I think the Patriots need to carry as many wide receivers as necessary to ensure the offense stays elite, dangerous, as versatile, and as immune to elite defenses as possible. It is what keeps us a SB contender every year.

In regards to the tweets, it is what it is but it's not what it seems like.

Everyone has off-the-field issues. Brady has a child out of wedlock but we didn't cut him ;)

Now wouldn't that be the cherry on top to an already amazing offseason. Sign him and Brady has his best supporting cast EVER offensively, regardless of who lines up at RB. Just a matter of the OL play not falling off too far without Light.

BB needs to bring back The Hut
and Get Carter!

I'm not saying the team shouldn't want him, I'm saying does football matter right now? I mean there are rumors that his 1st cousin had an affair with his wife. Whom he also going through a nasty divorce with. That ain't exactly brady having a kid with his girlfirend. I would be insane if that were me.

This one seems like a complete no-brainer to me.

If it were me, I'd want to get back to work ASAP, and I'd have a lot of aggression to work out.

Sign the mini-beast!
