In today's Sirius interview, Belichick is evasive about the prospects of RG Brian Waters returning for the upcoming season.

He also points out that "3 or 4 players on the team are here or there," in regards to their return.

First off, many will say that Belichick's comments are predictable in terms of Waters' return, but maybe we've been assuming incorrectly that he will definitely be back.

I would also pose the question: "who are your guesses to what 3 or 4 players are 'here' or 'there?' "

One of the more popular guesses would be Andre Carter, but since he really isn't a member of the team, and by all accounts hasn't even spoken with them, this may NOT include the status of Carter as one of these players.

He also made reference to Light's retirement, so we know he's not included in the mix.

Just curious to hear opinions on who those players may be.

I'm certainly expecting his return.

Any guesses as to any other players on the fence, or whom BB may be speaking of?

Carter, Ihedigbo, Faulk...

Ihedigbo is a free agent, so I wouldn't include him since he's not on the team.

Carter is 50/50, depending upon whether or not you believe that Belichick still considers him a part of the team.

Faulk--yes...

So right now, we have Faulk and Waters.

(And maybe Carter)

I'd include Welker as a possibility in that list. Also, I remember reading from one of our stalwart bloggers (Bedard, Reiss, and Rap{former}) that Carter had been working out at the stadium in the off season. I went to an early season Rev's game and there was a car in Carter's reserved spot FWIW...

well without hearing the context of what he said are you sure he didn't just mean guys that have been on the team that may or may not return?

Faulk is an FA also

Could be..never considered Welker, although maybe we should in regards to this subject.

Faulk is indeed a FA, sorry about that, as I forgot.

That is a good point, as I simply read the comments and did not hear the context. I assumed it may have been in terms of players who may retire or not come back, as it was right after the Waters comments.

Maybe someone actually heard it, and can let us know.

Carter, Faulk, and Waters would be the three, I would assume.

I hate to say it but...I hope they move on from Faulk. Give a younger player a chance to grow with the team. Use Kevin on the shadow roster.

I would be shocked if Carter isn't on this team at some point next year. He's said he really wants to sign a long term deal here and, as a coaching staff, you couldn't want anyone better than Carter mentoring your young defensive players.

Gotta think that Cunningham is close to the cut line if he doesn't have a good camp.

Even Light could be on that list, he is still listed on the roster at the team website (and they had added the 2012 draft to the roster by Sunday.

Did BB make those comments before or after G Warren re-signed?

The only thing that may steer me from that belief is the fact that Belichick admitted publicly for the first time today that he is retired and no longer on the team. However, you make a good point that anything is certainly always possible; especially with a player of his caliber.

As some have pointed out, Faulk, Waters, Carter etc are all probable candidates; I just wasn't sure how many viewed Carter as still being part of the team. I can understand Faulk due to his tenure here, and the thinking that he'll 'always' be a Patriot.

Ah, good thinking.

He may be the 'missing' player that I couldn't think of, as I believe that the interview may have been before the news of the probable re-signing.

Of course one could make a case that Belichick probably knew that Warren would be back prior to giving the interview.

I don't mind the Warren signing at all. Although some got down on him at times, he seems to be a disciplined player here who pretty much keeps his mouth shut and does everything that is asked of him--very opposite of a guy like Shaun Ellis, who just couldn't seem to fit in talentwise, or care enough to make much of a contribution.

I would agree that we need to get younger on the defensive line, but you can't fix all the problems or holes at once. In the meantime, the defense as a whole should be better equipped to hold other teams to lesser amounts of yardage and scoring as the season progresses.

Bedard has said multiple times that he's positive Waters will return fwiw.

I think the fact that BB didnt draft a single OL and didnt really go looking for tons of OL help in the FA market speaks VOLUMES about Waters chances of returning.

I think the only new (UDRFAs) G we picked up is Jeremiah Warren and OT is Markus Zusevics.

So that has to tell you that BB is planning on a full plate of OL to include Waters, in TC or at least at the start of the season.

BB's verbage was a subliminal message sent out through the airwaves and up the Twitter porthole to Ocho Sucko....the message...."Go away sucko.....leeeeeeeave....we don't want you here.....we want you there...on the other side of the fence."
It's all painfully obvious.
