Cursed Teams?

Yeah, but who could beat the the legend that is Montana. Bad timing, lol, and we were in that division at the time. 12 wins and we could not win. 49ers were unbeatable.

Hi Pherein!

Always good to have you here and my continued condolences for what has befallen the Saints. Like many others, I appreciate that you haven't tried to "make excuses" for what happened and question what is seen as fair punishment pretty much everywhere outside N'Awlins.

You raise a good point as usual. It might not be 100% applicable to the Saints because they were such a young franchise, but it's very interesting how many "Good" teams are stymied by a team or player that is "special."

The Cowboys of the 1970's were a juggernaut, but came away with only two Trophies in five trips to the SB because they had the misfortune of having to play the Steel Curtain, Terry Bradshaw and Chuck Knoll.

The Steelers of the 2000's feel that the Pats went to two of "their" SuperBowls by beating them in the AFCCG.

And has taken his team to the SB 5 times in 10 years, which is unparalleled.

The comments being responded to are a major issue with "newer" fans, they did not have the opportunity to enjoy the early 90's and the other lean times and lack perspective on how great a run this actually is. There are 31 other teams that are envious of our success... talk to anyone around the country, and after they spew the obligatory hate, they will ask how do you guys stay so good???

When I started watching football was a cleveland browns fan, Jim Brown was and is the man.. became a Pats fan in the late 60's... it is too bad that that storied franchise is on such a bad run... but there is always an ebb and flow.

In the spirit of your post with its respect for NFL history and without taking anything at all away from TB, there are a couple of parallels: Bart Starr took the Packers to six NFL Championship games over eight seasons, winning five. John Elway took the Broncos to five SB's over 13 seasons, winning two.

yeah, but those teams sucked, right? :D

On a side note, maybe the browns have the curse of BB (granted the timing is off and i'm sure the experieince helped fashion him into the coach he is today).

Mora built the colts and drafted PM. He's a great coach. LOL, thanks the more that know even though we wore bags, we were still AT the game, and the stands were full. Maybe it helps people understand us better.

The Saints liked Ebert because he was a Cajun boy.

Mora was good back then.

The Pats finally made to to the Super Bowl only to face the best defense in the history of the NFL. Then, Ditka let William Perry run for a TD. The next time they made it back to the SuperBowl, HC Parcells had basically quit and was looking for a new job Super Bowl week.

Heh...heh. Well-said. Yep, and not only did those other teams suck, but they didn't have any real competition and they were nowhere as good as today's teams and NFL history really didn't start until the day Tom Brady was drafted. :singing:

I hadn't thought of the concept of the "Curse of the Hoodie" in Cleveland, but I think you might be on to something.

Before Bill Belichick (the "BBB" era), the storied Cleveland Brown Franchise posted a 385--226 (0.630) record and went to the Playoffs 26 times, winning 13 Division, 11 Conference and eight League Championships!

After Bill Belichick (the "ABB" era), the Browns have posted a 68--140 (0.327) record, with one Wild Card Playoff appearance.

Coincidence? I.........think........NOT!

Beware the Curse of the Hoodie!

Sure, the magic helmet catch was lucky but so was getting the tuck call (not arguing whether the call was right or wrong...I think it was right...just that getting the reversal and the call was lucky). And, in each case, the teams in question still had to execute after the lucky event.

Invoking the tuck rule was more correct than not doing so, but not as correct as calling roughing the passer.

Hi PFS
Nice of you to say, most think its deserved, just takes some time for some to get their head around it.

Steelers of that era were amazing. Im not sure either of our offenses could have survived against them, and you right the cowboys had no answer.

Really good point. Have thought of the teams that could have been something if Brady wasn't around ? Brady and the Patriots are the force equal to what we faced in the montana era.
How many could have been teams have you guys kept down, lol. A lot.

You are, of course, not referring to Ben Dreith's call on Sugar Bear Hamilton in 1976?!?!

I guess that's why Eli has so many admirers outside of New England. He, along with Manningham and Tyree, are viewed as Agents of Retribution by many if not most NFL fans.

But...heh, heh...at the end of the day I'd rather be cheering for Tommy or Eli than for any of the other wannabe teams and players.

Yeah, Mora was good. I think his fault is he was always on bad teams. We know better than anyone how bad it is to be beat by Chicago fans in a playoff, that must have sucked, lol

True. Eli, even thou he's a interception machine, he has this god given ability to make what we call down here, miracle passes that you have to defend.
Im not sure I have ever seen a luckier QB, besides Bradshaw.

Im sure the dolphins, jets, and bills can't wait till the Brady era ends :). He's and BB are almost single handily cursing them, lol. To bad your not in our division we accept loss a little better.

pretty much all my teams are cursed

clippers chargers padres and kings

but alot of it has to do with cheap-ass ownership

not the chargers though, as you can't really be a cheap owner in the nfl due to the salary cap spending rules

No matter what the "official" NFL record books say, in reality the Browns are an expansion franchise that has only been around for thirteen years.

If you look at the history of the NFL (or any other professional sports league), how many franchises have an overwhelming majority of losing seasons over their first ten or twenty years and how many manage to be successful over that period of time? You would have to go back to the Miami Dolphins becoming a good team in just their fifth year in 1970 to find a brand new franchise that had a long run of success rather quickly. There shouldn't really be any surprise that the Browns have struggled.

I am not.

I am referring to that very play, where the Raiders got away with a slap to Brady's head, which, AFAIK, has always been RTP.

Cleveland,Ohio was cursed long before the Browns team was formed

Lighten up. I was clearly just kidding. Cheesh.
