Wow, Cincinnati. Marvin Jones and George Iloka that late, back to back. That's dreamy.

Pittsburgh. Talk about the pieces falling into the lap. Adams can be a very good LT if he wants to.

Patriots. I'm not sure the moving up twice was worth it. But I've learned never to doubt Bill when it comes to the first round. It's the other rounds where the record becomes spotty.

I think Pete Prisco says it best, it all depends on the play of Tavon Wilson, a guy who looks the part but doesn't come with a lot of publicity or recognition.

A+, A, B+.

I like Pittsburgh's approach to stay where they are. All this wheeling and dealing helps and hurts. When all is settled, we'd probably have been better off just following suit.

You can draft what the pundits perceive as the greatest players on the draft boards, but if you do not have the vision and the infrstructure to tap their potential and play to their strengths.. it means shyt.

Today all the draft prognosticators will come out and give their grades, but this is a function of the bored idle press... maybe they should be grading the '09 draft today, based on performance, rather than making grades that will appeal to social media popularity.. i.e. more facebook friends or twitter followers.

I think Cinncinati, Pittsburg, Philadelphia and Indianapolis had very good drafts.

But...you were thrilled after day 1, when they traded both their picks, then livid about the one pick they DIDN'T trade! And you're all "dreamy" about the Cinci picks, both of whom they traded for.

Let's face it, in the end none of us really cares about how much trading was done. All we care about is the talent acquired.

Why are Jones and Iloka back to back dreamy exactly?

It's hard to say why someone like Wilson got drafted so early because you'd need access to just about every team's draft board.

But taking 'character issues' out of the equation it is easy to see why supposed 2nd rounders fall so far. It's because they aren't that good.

This is where the mockers get exposed for what they are because it is 32 teams telling them they're wrong.

I really love the Cinci draft class. Kirkpatrick, Zeitler, Still, Sanu, Thompson... wow, that's 5 of my binkies right there. Even with Jones and Hightower in the fold, we still could use Still or Thompson on our roster.

I like the Steelers draft, but I dont have the same kind of draft envy as with the Bengals.

Eagles got Fletcher Cox and Boykins. Nice, but I'm okay with that.

Indy... meh. That's what drafting #1 looks like. I'm really not all that impressed.

The two other teams that I thought did well are the Chargers... Melvin Ingram, Reyes, Brandon Taylor... and they got David Molk in the 7th. All players that I liked. And I thought (unfortunately) the Fins did decent, even after getting trapped reaching for Tannehill.

I agree. Cinci is binky rich

Philly is even more binky-rich - Cox, Mychal Kendricks, Vinny Curry, Boynkin - that's crazy.

I liked Indy's draft. Luck, 2 of the top TEs Fleener and Allen and a very nice DT/NT Chapman in the the 5th round. I can't believe Chapman wasn't drafted higher.

Dreamy? Davey Jones curses you from his grave and Marcia Brady is vissably upset.:)

I just like Jones and Iloka. Iloka is a much better football player than Tavon "I can't make all big ten or even second team all big ten" Wilson. If Wilson didn't put out a 4.52 40 he'd have been a free agent.

Iloka ran a 4.68 at the combine and later at his pro day did better. I just like those two players. and there was another taken with them. I consider it a sweet spot in the draft.

Thus the "Day Dream" antics.

BTW, just like we screwed over Baltimore by taking Hightower, the Redskins did the same to Buffalo who really, really were salivating over a very good QB--better than Hoyer--Kirk Cousins from Michigan State. Cousins broke just about every record there was for the position and has character that is the best. Did you hear his speech? Kirk Cousins Kickoff Luncheon Speech - YouTube

Poor Buffalo.

I thought (unfortunately) the Fins did decent, even after getting trapped reaching for Tannehill.

Their draft is all about Tanneyhill. If he busts it's years of time wasted. They would need to get a HOFer from another pick in order to call it a success if Tanneyhill busts.

Sometimes it seems like we gloss over the fact that we got Hightower, Jones, Dennard and Bequette in order to focus on BB going off the grid for Wilson in the second round.

Why can't we be estatic with those four instead of focusing on the opportunity squandered by taking Wilson?

If we had taken Dennard in the second and Wilson in the seventh, would anybody be as fixated on Wilson as they are now?

I agree. If people want to question the pick than fine. It's their right, but the whole draft can't be a failure after viewing the net of fish they dropped on deck.

Btw, I have I ever told anyone how much I like Jeremy Ebert:p

I agree and have written about it elsewhere to the effect that we took as seventh-rounder in the second and a second-rounder in the seventh.

Works for me.

Here's a fair analysis about the only blemish on this draft, by Pro Football Weekly's Kevin Fishbain. ProFootballWeekly.com - Patriots make surprising Friday picks

He doesn't mention the tradedown with our 62nd pick for little comparable value that is forgotten.

One thing that comforts me in terms of the Tavon Wilson pick is that they obviously really wanted him. They had two picks left, no doubt BB will ideally have liked to trade out of #62 and pick up a 2013 pick if he could. Which means the Wilson pick may well have been their last and yet they still made it - which also means that rather than being a reach, he was the highest person on their board at that time. I'm comfortable with that.

Let's face it, in the end none of us really cares about how much trading was done. All we care about is the talent acquired.
I do when it's for poor value.

Even the even-keeled, extremely diplomatic Mike Reiss gave the trade down from 62 a D-.

New England Patriots 2012 draft grades - ESPN Boston
This is a tough one to figure out, as it doesn't appear the Patriots received good value in trading the 62nd overall pick for a third-rounder (90th) and fifth-rounder (163rd). A bit later in the draft, the Browns traded the 67th overall pick (3rd-rounder) for the 87th overall pick (3rd-rounder) and 120th overall pick (4th-rounder), which highlights how the Patriots got short-changed.
Can you justify that?

I think Bill should have kept the pick if that was all he was going to get. People were underbidding, knowing this is what he likes to do. Don't trade down for the sake of trading down.

He could have taken a stud DT at 48 and gone for Tavon "Three INTs in Three Years" Wilson at 62. I'm pretty sure he'd have been there, like a pulchritudinous lass would be on the arm of Brad Pitt.

This is called "crying over spilled milk." I heard just as much whining if not more when Ridley was selected. Tavon might turn into a bust but I really see no point in wasting energy crying over the pick.

PS If the Pats were offered the better trade at the time, they would have taken it obviously. But just as obviously, I don't think that offer of 87 + 120 was there at the time. Pats still ended up getting a 3 for 1 with that 5th round pick so it all evens out in the end. Can we stop with the Waah Waah Waah we drafted Tavon Wilson now? Thx.

Ever heard of Freedom of Speach, Bub?

It's clear that unless 100% of Patriots Nation responds to every one of Coach Bill's moves with fervent, fawning, and unconditional approval and rapturous applause, then we're gonna have to be beset with the spectacle of you and yours throwing squealing, snivelling temper tantrums about it.

And I'll bet you can't even fathom how deeply, richly ironic that is.

Whining...about the whining?? ;)

Personally, I've moved forward from the Tavon Wilson Tragedy, but in a Free Society ~ perhaps you haven't heard ~ people are free to express their own opinions as they see fit.

The Value Chart no longer exists under the new CBA.

The Jimmy Johnson value charte? I have to disagree, I actually think it's MORE accurate now. Back in the days of obscene contracts for the top handful of players, I think it significantly overvalued those picks.
