2nd round trade, right now who would you rather have?

I think everyone was upset at what we got for that second 2nd rounder. Well, looking at it right now what would you rather have. One of these players or the four guys we ended up getting? (I'll leave anyone out that was picked after Bequette, even though I personally loved TY Hilton and Joe Adams. I'll also leave out Reyes, Worthy et al even though we might have been able to take them at the Wilson pick and Wilson at the second pick...ugh I'm ranting). Anyway onto the poll

I'd take Brandon Brooks (srsly how the hell did he last til the 3rd round?). Let's hope Dennard and Bequette turns out to be beasts so I can be wrong.

We added perceived depth to the backfield (plus a first/second round slider) whilst taking a potential impact player in the front 7. It's a no brainer for me.

Looking it over it really does kinda calm you down from bein so upset at what picks we got in return for that second rounder. I mean I'm still pissed at some of the selections, but clearly at the end of the day we did get good value in regards to what players we got from the trade.

Is it possible there was a "secondary" deal made. BB is shrewd and doesn't give away 2nd round picks. I also think back to that Minnesota deal that pissed BB off when Childress took our half back/tight end. There may be more to this story then a straight up trade.

no matter how much time we fans put into the draft, we do and should know a fraction of what the professions should know. they get paid for looking at every aspect of a player, work them out, and also do their best to find out what's in their heads.

So we can sit and say that we would have liked this guy or that guy, but we really don't know. Putting the time we do on the draft is a hobby for us, it's job for those who really have to do the drafting. It's also a job they can lose if they are wrong too often while we continue with our hobby.

Draftniks don't even know what the hell to scout for anymore because Bill isn't running a base defense - his new defense is multiple. Guys who didn't used to fit now fit what we may be doing more than half of the time...and guys who used to be ideal specific position fits are now limited due to lack of versatility.

Once again coach is just ahead of the curve and the draftniks and fans are being dragged along kicking and screaming behind him...

This may be a terrible pick. But the reason is would be isn't because fans watching college games and reading up on the draft have a better quantity and quality of knowledge to make that decision than Bill Belichick.

To say I am worried about the pick because it seems to contradict many scouting reports is one thing.
To say I think ____________ is a better pick is something else entirely, and useless as a point of discussion.

You seem to be of the opinion that it's impossible for any of us amateurs to make a better decision than BB, which I reject. BB has likely forgotten more about football than I'll ever know but that doesn't mean he's immune from thinking within a box and/or outsmarting himself.

Thats ridiculous. He also knows more about all 80 players on his roster and how they fit together. You are just creating a euphamism to cover the phenomenon of dumb luck.

You have every right to discuss whatever you want, just as I do, including the silliness of thinking you have the information or skill to analyze it to make such a claim. If you don't like that, don't partake in it.

Let's assume for a minute that we can all breakdown film as well as BB. :singing:

He still has the benefit of the interviews. How do we know if he asked any of these guys the simplest of questions when looking at film and they were clueless? How do we know if he asked them what's the first thing you'll do after we draft you and they answered go to Vegas with my posse? In Patriot Reign they interviewed Shockey and I forget the exact deal because it's been a while but the basic context was about him missing not being willing to block and he eventually got that Pioli was making fun of him in a round about way. Shockey was an obvious talent but not about the team.

I'm not saying I like all the picks from Bill and I've cursed many of them and thought WTF.

I think this is the exact reason why an amateur like myself is capable of making a better choice than a professional, who is surrounded by peers yourself, who wouldn't ever work with him again if they didnt approve of his theory and especially if they didnt approve of this theory and it got better results than theirs.

I have no clue what you are talking about here.
I am talking about the fact that if you and Bill Belichick sat down and analyzed 100 players from this draft, he would have a better and more accurate analysis that you 100 times.

I think this is the exact reason why an amateur like myself is capable of making a better choice than a professional, who is surrounded by peers yourself, who wouldn't ever work with him again if they didnt approve of his theory and especially if they didnt approve of this theory and it got better results than theirs.

This is the dumb luck part of the equation. There is no doubt you would end up more right on some of them but it wouldn't be because you are more informed or more equipped to analyze, but because it is an inexact science and many players do not turn out as expected.
My 13 year old son could pick a better stock than a professional a few times out of 100, because of dumb luck. That doesn't mean that his reasoning for doing so on any given stock hplds any water.
