2013 Atlanta Falcons First Round Pick

re: My 3 round mock: Kendall Reyes, Amini Silatolu, Trumaine Johnson, Derek Wolfe & more

Looks pretty good. While some would be disappointed, I wouldn't really have a problem trading both 1st rounders away, although I'd like a pick before 38. I'm also not sure that Atlanta will want to give away any more future first rounders after last year.

That being said, I would still be very happy with this draft for us.

re: My 3 round mock: Kendall Reyes, Amini Silatolu, Trumaine Johnson, Derek Wolfe & more

I viewed the Falcons needs as OL, LB and then probably a TE. With the right piece they could potentially make the Super Bowl. Dimitroff showed last year he was willing to go get that guy.

I just don't like the value at the end of the 1st and my preference would be to move down and/or out completely or if Cox is still on the board around 12/13 see if we could go up and get him. Realistically we probably only trade one and if we did have 4 2nd round picks I'm positive we would move one into next year as well.

re: My 3 round mock: Kendall Reyes, Amini Silatolu, Trumaine Johnson, Derek Wolfe & more

I just puked in my mouth a little. If I stay up to midnight on Thursday and we trade both picks I will jump out my window :)

I do like the first trade though.

re: My 3 round mock: Kendall Reyes, Amini Silatolu, Trumaine Johnson, Derek Wolfe & more

This actually makes a lot of sense. So much for those draft parties on Thursday.

Interesting that you have the Patriots passing on Jenoris Jenkins at 55. I doubt that Jenkins gets out of the first round never mind 55 but who knows. I think he is worth a gamble at 55 although I am sure that BB does not want the headache...

If we take Randal at 38 Smith at 48 and Jenkins at 55, Curry at 62 than I would be pumped about that draft. Using those pick trades and by selecting guys you have going later.

re: My 3 round mock: Kendall Reyes, Amini Silatolu, Trumaine Johnson, Derek Wolfe & more

Your overall flow of the draft seems pretty reasonable, so I'll stick to the Pats:

*TRADE*
New England sends #27 to Atlanta for #55 and 2013 1st Round Pick

27. ATL - OG Kevin Zeitler Wisconsin
55. NE - DB Trumaine Johnson Montana

Been mocking this trade for a while. Just seems to make too much sense, doesn't it? Having McClellin go 2 picks later would add the obligatory Clay Barwin angst to the proceedings as well.

Love the Johnson pick at #55. Haven't been able to get him to the Pats in my projections so I'm hoping you have this right.

*TRADE*
New England sends #31 to Jacksonville for #38 + #102

31. JAC - WR Stephen Hill Georgia Tech
38. NE - DT Kendell Reyes UCONN

Haven't mocked a trade down from 31 before but this seems to make sense as well. With the Pats being quiet on acquiring a 3-4 DE in FA, Reyes seems like a natural selection. The trade down could be a little risky if they have Reyes as a target since the 3-4 DEs after him are a significant drop-off in talent.

48. NE - OL Amini Silatolu Midwestern State

Right about where he should go and the Pats could use youth in the interior OL...so why doesn't this pick feel right? Can't explain it so that likely makes it my hangup and not an issue with picking Silatolu. Not having an outside rusher at this point in the draft will start to make me antsy though.

62. NE - DT Derek Wolfe Cincinnati

Really like Wolfe. Really hate this pick. Unless Pryor hasn't fully recovered or he is on the way out, I see Pryor/Fanene as the sub DTs. Wolfe would provide quality depth but that seems like a good use for a low-cost FA and not a 2nd round pick. Particularly with rush end still not being addressed.

93. NE - S Brandon Taylor LSU

Isn't this kind of redundant with the Johnson pick earlier?

102. NE - WR Joe Adams Arkansas

Solid pick. Not sure how he does in the competition with Stallworth, Edelperson, Gonzalez and Ocho, but worst case he is a developmental gameday inactive pending an injury.

131. NE - LB Jonathan Massaquoi Troy

If you are going to grab a raw rush end that will need some seasoning, this is the guy.

2013 Atlanta Falcons First Round Pick

Assuming the Saints organization can halt their descent into oblivion, I can see the Falcons missing the playoff and yielding a solid mid-1st-round return in 2013.

Would be pretty happy with this result. Even the picks I'm not thrilled about raise the athleticism of the roster...which is never a bad thing. Nice job.

Nice Effort and very creative......but (you kind of knew there would be a "but" didn't you. ;) )

1. I like the first trade, good value. Evidently the guys they wanted at that spot were taken.

2. Hated the 2nd trade. Not so much for the trade but the value you got....and the fact there are 2 players I like that won't be there if you make this trade. There is no need for the Pats to have a pick 102nd pick. If you had to trade down take the 55 and a 2nd or third next year

3. Reyes is a good pick at 38, but I would prefer Jones or Still at 31

4 Hated the Silatolu pick, we don't need another G right now, and if you project him at OT, then I would opine that you don't pick your #4 OT prospect that high

5 Love Johnson. Like Wolfe, I'd pass on Taylor, I don't see Adams making the team, and while Massaquoi is interesting, its a pick I wouldn't have.

6. If you are going to trade down, it should be for draft picks in 2013, like you did in the first trade. We don't need more pick for this year.

7. Here is what I'd do using your draft order and trying to be as close to your intent as possible

a. I make your trade of the 27th.
b. I keep the 31 and pick Devon Still DE/DT- If motivated a great pick
c. At 48 I pick Janoris Jenkins - real boom or bust pick, but the risk is mitigated at 48
d. At 55 I stay with your pick of Johnson as hybrid CB/S - you can't have too many DBs this year
e. At 62 I go with Vinnie Curry DE/OLB instead of Wolfe - Andre Carter's understudy
f. At 93 I don't see anyone I particularly like so I trade it for 3rd rounder in 2013 plus a 7th this season
g. At 131 I do the same with the 4th rounder and get back a 2013 4th and 6th
h. With that 7th round pick I pick Dale Moss a 6'5 raw WR prospect who is going to be on the PS and won't factor into the already muddled WR roster situation. But he gives us a leg up on getting younger there for next season. He's a very interesting prospect and an OTG favorite

REVI.EW:
31. Devon Still DE/DT
48.Janoris Jenkins CB
55. Trumaine Johnson CB/S
62. Vinnie Curry DE/OLB
232. Dale Moss WR
Plus extra picks in the 2013 draft in rounds 1, 3, 4, and 6

What do you think?

I think if Atlanta traded a future first for an OG, Dimitroff wouldn't see the day out in Atlanta, especially when Brandon Brooks is picked 6 picks after 55.

Well done on the three rounder. They're not my preferred picks but it wouldn't be a disastrous haul.

I like it. if i had to do it i'd probably take h smith at 48 and jenkins at 55. I think he'll fall . his character has really come into question lately so i really think he could fall down this far. i def love the d still pick and curry. this would be a draft that would really make me feel good about this years D.

I'm really just looking for an excuse to jump out the window super hero style :D

re: My 3 round mock: Kendall Reyes, Amini Silatolu, Trumaine Johnson, Derek Wolfe & more

You really think Atlanta would give a #2 and a '13 #1 for a Guard

re: My 3 round mock: Kendall Reyes, Amini Silatolu, Trumaine Johnson, Derek Wolfe & more

I find this to be realistic, although I doubt Gilmore or Tannehill fall that low, it could certainly happen.

I also have the trade with Atlanta in my mock, but I think Fleener is the more likely target.

Good work.

I don't mind taking a chance on Jenkins or Johnson....I wouldn't draft both. Jenkins at 48 is still too high, though, for my comfort. After signing his first contract, this guy is going to have three very large checks to sign each month, which to me screams "holdout" after two years.

When you mention that it reminds me of Cro and if the Jets handle him they might take a chance Jenkins in the second round

Heat, Parcells did a draft special last night on ESPN. He made a couple of points that struck me as being eminently true. These days in the NFL you need 3 CB types and only one safety "type" in your backfield. That's why I like Johnson. He would be a safety with CB skills.

The other thing was he thought now your nickel D are essentially your starters. I think by now we all realize this is true. Most teams have 3 WRs out there on a majority of downs, not just in passing situations. What is implied by this is that the devaluing of the ILB position, because that is the guy who is going to be off the field. Its important to ask, that as the league goes more to the passing game is the ILB going to go the way of the FB

The other implication of this is on draft day. Should the Pats or anyone else for that matter, invest a high draft pick on a player who, even if your lucky enough be right on, will be on the sidelines a majority of the game

BTW- if they run the show again, I'd recommend it. It was called "draft confidential"

Good work.

I'm pretty positive Miami will take Tannehill at 8, if I was the GM though I think that they SHOULD trade down if that's who they want to take. If the option is on the table to move down and pick up an extra pick or two I would do it in a heartbeat. Tannehill is not going to turn your franchise around over night and they need to draft a few WRs, a safety, and probably some oline depth. IMO Tannehill is this years Gabbert and is extremely overrated due to the ESPN hype machine. Of course as a Pats fan I'd be THRILLED to see them trade to 4 and take him :D

I think Fleener would make sense too for Atlanta, if that trade happens I believe SF would take the one that they didn't select.

I actually did have him going to the Jets at 47. He seems like their type of player. Then I realized I traded that pick to Jacksonville and with them taking Gilmore in the 1st I had to look elsewhere.

Not having an outside rusher at this point in the draft will start to make me antsy though.

Isn't that what we've come to expect the past 4-5 years though?! hahaha
