Sources: Saints' GM could eavesdrop on opposing coaches during home games

We know from researching the reaction to spygate that this stuff has been happening since the beginning of the NFL. I feel sorry for the Saints at this point.

The worst part of this is now we have to hear about Spygate all over the news again.

Watching on ESPN now; "could be in violation of state and federal laws." Yikes.

And of course they're showing "Spygate" as the closest comparison; they showed the video the Pats recorded in 2007, of opposing coaches' signals, and that seems laughably small-time compared to this.

It is but the problem is they have proof that we did it, they'll never have actual video evidence of the Saints doing it.

Can we call this Spygate and come up with a new name that actually fits what the Pats were doing way back when?

While Spygate will certainly be brought up quite a bit, I think this makes us look good to be honest. All we did was steal hand signals, if loomis did what he is accused of, he would have been able to hear actual play-calls in real time. That makes Spygate look like a joke in comparison. The Saints are in knee deep in **** right now and I can't say I'm not enjoying the show.

Even if these allegations are proven true, I can still see the Jets fans on Jets Insider saying Spygate is far worse... just because.

All the Saints did was tap into private coaches communications and broke state laws. The Pats videotaped something that 60,000 fans in the stadium could see with their own eyes. Clearly the Pats did something worse.

ESPN "analyists" are beating them to it. Polian says he sees no way Loomis could understand the coaches' terminology and translate it into action, and Schlereth actually said it's not like knowing hand signals, where know exactly what play is being called. Honestly, they sound like Patriots fans talking about "Spygate." Odd to me that they're summarily dismissing this -- in part, I think, because the saints were not very successful in the time period involved.

Yeah, breaking the law and bugging private communications is just plain fun, videotaping hand signals that anyone in stadium could see is just plain evil.

Sorry, but Polian's explanation is stupid. So if say the opposing QB got injured during the game and the team is covering it up while he is still playing, Polian thinks that if they discussed it in the booth that Loomis couldn't understand coaches' terminology like "I think Cam Newton has a separated shoulder".

Sorry, there is so much more that goes on during the game that is private intell than just coaches speak. If Loomis recorded the talk, he could have every play call.

Of course thats probably correct but I don't remember any of those assclowns saying it after spygate and it would have been harder to decode a damn hand signal.

Super. I can't wait to spend all week listening to ESPN and mediots explain how much worse spygate is and how we're all going to hell for rooting for the Pats.

So, it's funny to see this stuff come out, and another fan base have to deal with the predictable over reactions it will cause.....

However, it makes me cringe too. Because now I'll have to be painfully reminded how stupidly ignorant the national media is again, in their judgments of "Spygate".

Be prepared for about a month of comparisons to our taping incident. Followed by alleged professional media members flat out making s*&t up, and reporting rumors, and false reports as truth.

Good times, good times....I only wish I could be as incompetent at my job and still get paid.

This to me is worse than the Walsh accusations because I don't know how the hell they would ever be able to prove this. At least Walsh had some tapes, just not the walkthrough that was mentioned. Wouldnt be surprised to see the Saints sue ESPN over this one.

If there is evidence of this occurring and the Saints don't lose a high draft pick because of it, I'm going to explode. The Pats didn't lose a 1st round pick because they actually used that video to gain gameday advantages. They lost the pick because they intentionally violated a league directive and allowed the appearance of cheating to be attached to the league.

Anyone that claims this is different because there is no way Loomis could use the audio to the Saints advantage should have to prove that the Pats could use video in near real-time operations. I mean literally show how it is possible to pull it off. Can't be done.

But that isn't the point. It is all perception. You break the rules and give the appearance of cheating, you get nailed to the wall. In addition, if this is true the Saints would be in violation of wiretapping laws which raises the bar for the severity of what they were doing. It is one thing to record something you can see in public view. It is entirely another thing to record something you are explicitly prohibited (by rules and laws) from accessing.

People need to remember that Cameragate was in great part a result of the league reaction to the 2006 game in Miami. The Fins won 21-0 and literally bragged about having inside info regarding line calls...obviously something that no other team had access to. Instead of investigating, the league response was "Well that's football". That had to enrage Belichick since the Pats went to Indy for the AFCC game only because of a tie-breaker.

The icing on the cake is that Loomis is on record denying that this occurred. If there is nothing to the story, good for him. If the story has legs, Loomis has to burn and the Saints need to pay a comparable penalty to Cameragate.

If true, it is much worse. First, Loomis would have broken the law. Second, these allegations are allegations of premeditated cheating. The Rams' Walkthrough allegations was a crime of opportunity.

Absolutely I just cant imagine there is any hard proof of this. The Superdome was trashed and completely redone after Katrina so unless they made a new one, and judging from the Loomis response either they didnt or someone is tearing it out as we speak, they'll never be able to prove it.

That's the piece that's being left out of Polian and Schlereth saying knowledge of hand signals is worse.

FWIW, NFL office is saying they know nothing about these allegations. This is a big story ESPN is putting out there, and they'd better be right.

If they are wrong, I hope that Loomis sues their arses. ESPN is nothing but a Piece of ******. I wouldn't put it past them to make something up so that they can bring up an old story.
