Have you see him in action again Julio Jones and Ashon Jeffry? The guy is incredible. He can run and he can cover and he has good hands. In addition he an aggressive fearless tackler. Of course the downside makes you think of Pac Man Jones.

So what if he slides to 27? I think that the Patriots have to take him and hold their breath. Supposedly he has matured so I suspect that they can get a couple of years out of him before he reverts to form....

I think you mean Julio Jones and AJ Green, whom he both shut down.

IIRC, Ashon Jeffrey kind of had his way with him.

Jenkins is probably off the board altogether. We see this every year with guys who are talented, but offer nothing else.

He's not exactly the typical "leadership/captain," mature and smart status that Belichick looks for with his first round picks.

I think there are a handful of teams that will take a chance on him, but there was a report from SI last week (and PFT) that said that 'many teams' have taken him off the board altogether.

I thought he had an int and forced fumble against Alshon Jeffery...anyway hiring him would be more like a short-term rental. Two years max but you would have a shutdown corner for 2 seasons; that would be huge for this defense.

I am sure that BB has assigned a value for him but it might be 31 or the second round...

BB is close to both Will Muschamp and Charlie Weis... neither of whom will say nice things about Janoris. Maybe he's matured. Maybe he's putting on an act for NFL teams - he's got character problems, he's not stupid.

It's tough to get on Belichick's board to begin with. Don't imagine Jenkins is there.

Just can't see BB putting up with anyone who once told his Head Coach, "Do you know who you're talking to?"

FWIW, Jeffrey played twice against Jenkins...

2009 - 6 receptions, 57 yards, 0 TDs
2010 - 6 receptions, 53 yards, 0 TDs

Can't remember too many receivers that had big days against Janoris, off the top of my head.

I wouldn't touch him until maybe the 4th.

Yea, the guy can play but so could Pacman. Goodell will have his eyes on this guy from day 1.

The rumors are that he is off many NFL teams boards. But there is always a team willing to go on talent only, so he may be taken in the upper 2nd round.

He doesn't put the team first. That attitude means not a patriot

I have a thing for CBs and Jenkins is one of the best I have seen in a long time. Not only can he cover but he will crash into RBs. I saw him at the bottom of piles with his arms around an RB a number of times. Rather different than Assante Samuel or Prime Time. He would have made a difference in the last Super Bowl (if he did not get into a bar fight the night before)....

Oh so tempting but oh so dangerous a pick. It would be Faustian selection wherein the Patriots would sell their soul...

Thanks for the stats.

In comparison to what he did to both Green and Jones, I assumed those are the 2 guys he meant.

Jeffrey certainly didn't "have his way with him," but he did much better than the first two guys. I know that at least one of Green/J.Jones was held to 17-19 yards, and the other didn't do much better.

Maybe you have some solid stats, since I would assume that you followed Jenkins pretty closely while he was at Florida?

What's your take on him anyway? Would you take him at all? I wouldn't touch him in the first, but would strongly consider it in the late 2nd. If the 3rd round came with him still being available, I'd be pretty damn happy--character issues aside.

I just have a feeling that Belichick doesn't even give him as much as a glance.

*(Disclaimer) I wouldn't touch him with either 27 or 31 depending on which we keep. Those picks are and should be reserved for projected 5-10 year immediate starting contributors and team leaders.

But I don't know how BB can see someone of his caliber being on the board mid-late 2nd round and not see the immense value there. Assuming trade downs we will possibly have another 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th rounder at our disposal so we could double down on the defensive secondary at some point.

BB fielded one of the worst passing defenses in his tenure in 2011, put on the tape and Jenkins is probably our best CB, talent wise, right out of the box. Outside of DE/OLB and 5 tech the secondary is by far our achilles heel and if we can infuse it with blue chip talent I think that possibility should be weighed heavily.

I imagine that he will be taken in the high 2nd, middle at worst.

Some team will take him, we all have our idea of who those teams could be.

from what i hear jenkins has great talent but he's pacman jones part ii.

I don't think any of us will find out until draft day whether this is a Smith of balt situation or a Blout (UFA) situation and it could easily go both ways.

Personally i would be comfortable taking him with our 2nd 2nd. I would like good solid leaders out there from our 1st 3 picks. Now do i think he will be there at our 2nd 2nd? Nope. But that's the position where i think the risk would match the reward. The risk is he goes all Pacman on you (but then again butler & Weatley haven't worked out at that position either so no huge loss). His upside is he has the skills to be a top 5 corner in the league.

As far as BB drafting him, when you read their books they seem quite keen to avoid locker room cancers and mention this in the war room/patriot reign. I think this was reaffirmed in BB with the Adalius Thomas later years fiasco.

But for me personally, I think Devin MC could be a pro bowler at FS or CB, If we Jenkins could be the shut down corner we all think he could I might just risk it. But i guess we'll have to see.

Could? Pacman can play. He's still a damn good DB.

Interestingly enough it was Floyd Reese who drafted PacMan Jones initially for the Titans (and included a clause in the contract about no bonus if he got arrested). Jones was a nightmare and I am sure Reese does not want to deal with that again.

Is Jenkins as bad as PacMan? It would be hard to get in as much trouble as PacMan but it seems that Jenkins is well on his way (from Wikipedia):

On June 1, 2009, Jenkins was arrested near a bar by Gainesville Police for fighting and resisting arrest after punching a man in the head around 2 AM. Police were forced to use a taser on Jenkins after fighting escalated. When asked why the fight started, Jenkins told police it was because he thought someone was going to steal the gold chain around his neck.[2]

On April 23, 2011, Jenkins was cited by a Gainesville police officer and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession. He was cited for the same violation in January 2011, and paid a $316 fine. He was arrested in May 2009 during a downtown Gainesville fight that resulted in probation and community service. On April 26, 2011, he was dismissed by the Florida Gators football team, due to his second drug related arrest in 3 months

PacMan was incredible in his prime. I remember watching him shutdown number 1 WRs; a thing of beauty. Jenkins seems to have that level of talent but he was a nightmare at Florida. Did he wise up last year or is he just trying to stay low until he gets a big payday?

This kid can flat out play. I would absolutely spend a 2nd round pick on him.

Well he also knows Urban Meyer, and he might give a different account of Jenkins who he had for 3 years, compared to Muschamps 3 months.

I'd take him at 31, he has top 10 talent. Jenkins has better ball skills than Joe Haden who I believe went 6 in the draft.

News out of Dallas back before the Combine was that Jenkins was the guy they wanted in the first round. Nothing has changed since then. The only way I don't see Dallas taking Jenkins is if he's already off the board by the time they pick.
