If you really want to get the garbage out of town, fire enveryone in the bullpen along with the idiot(s) who assembled it. Worst bullpen EVER...in the history of ML baseball.

While that may be true, and I do not disagree, Valentine as manager has final say on all field operations..... Why wait ... get rid of him now before the entire clubhouse is infected. Sometimes it is best just to admit a mistake, take whatever it costs to fix, and do it before it gets to the point where the damage can not be fixed.

Kiss his ass goodbye.

Not sure what you mean by "field operations", but it's hard to believe that he was/is OK with the make-up of this bull-pen. Look, I'm typically a "glass half full" guy, but this bull pen absolutely blows and the rotation is only marginally better. The individuals making up the rest of the 25 man roster seems OK on the surface, but I just get the sense that the whole thing is just the wrong mix. I know this: I'm not watching another game until they're at .500. And I'm prepared for a long siege

The field manager has the final say, generally, as to who the 25 will be that are in uniform.

6.1 ERA and .289 BA against ... worst in MLB and that was before today's disaster.

Yet people still have the gaul to review the decisions made by Epstein and Tito glowingly because the team was successful over half a decade ago.

The Red Sox pitching predicament has been in development for some time. It's not like it hasn't been discussed at length by us supporters over the last, oh I don't know 2 years? Cherrington and Valentine didn't do much to help the situation, but there's only so much they could do.

I'd start with firing LL.
Need to see what Cherrington can do with someone who will allow him to GM
(Byrd, WTF)

Got to bring up AAA pitchers into the BP.

Last night was really damaging.

Go off to watch the 9th inning for Umber and come back to watch that. Painful final innings.

I don't like Valentine, because he really hasn't shown that he can manage the bullpen very well and he's only made the riffs in the organization worse.

However, the fans need to stop blaming the manager for this. This team has played like sh*t all season. The bullpen has just been absolutely atrocious. The offense has been shut down in most of the games this season. The starting rotation has largely been embarassing.

There are arguably four guys on this team pulling their weight: Ortiz, Pedroia, Doubront, and Aviles.

Let the obsession with Bobby Valentine go. He's not a good manager, but when you go to the bullpen in the 7th with an 8 run lead, that bullpen should be able to get it done. The fact that the bullpen blew this game is on them, and not Valentine. Start putting some blame on the players out there who are playing like garbage.

BTW, what do you think firing Valentine will do. Do you think it will make this bullpen better? Do you think our starting rotation, which is made up of some of the biggest underperformers in baseball start living up to expectation. Do you think Youkillis will suddenly show an ability to make contact?

In some strange sense of the manner, I had hoped the appointment of Valentine would raffle the feathers so to speak similar to a tear it down to build it back up approach. The bookend results of 2011 proved the Red Sox current way of doing things on field has been dysfunctional for some time.

Not necessarily. Epstein, Cherington and Lucchino have all had a say in determining the 25, both past and present. Much of this roster was set when Valentine was hired. As Cafardo said in the Globe this morning (page C4, paragraph 5), "Valentine doesn't pick the groceries."

I don't understand why people are blaming Bobbie V. This roster is a collection of tomato cans. What is the guy supposed to do when the pitching on this team pretty much sucks from top to bottom?

Except here in Boston, where it's run by Luchino, Werner, and Cherington, to a lesser extent. IMO, Valentine is a puppet. He's inherited a mess, and it's not his fault.
