Ok, this is it. Our last chance to make fools of ourselves before BB goes in an entirely opposite direction.

Patriots picks as of now are 27,31, 48, 62,93, & 126.

Using the Draft Value chart, if both Barron and Hightower are on the board from 15-25, I say we use our capital to trade up and get both. 2 play makers on D is really all I want and the rest of the draft can be used as fill in's.

I play online poker, and there have been hands when I know I'm beat - I'll have two pair and the other guy three bets me, and I just know he has a set - but I call anyway.

That's where I'm at with our first choice. I am nearly 100% certain this will not be the pick, but I'm mocking it just the same.

27 S. McClellen OLB - Everyone else they have targetted is off the boards. I foresee a huge run on edge rushers and defensive ends.

Last year the Pat's passed on Cam Jordan and M. Wilkerson, so I can't see them this year taking someone like R. Keyes with their first pick, while Still and Worthy are not currently schematic fits. McClellen can play three downs and probably special teams. Will need to work on strength and setting the edge. Concussion history may be an issue.

According to the PFW chart this is a major reach. However after reading reviews about the Patriots draft last year, every one of their picks was considered a reach. BB has proven he doesn't care about that. There is no other player that offers the versatility that McClellen does that he can get later.

31 Lavonte David- ILB Suprise pick. From all indications the Patriots are in the market for a cover LB who has potential to rush the passer. M. Kenricks is also a possiblity. David gets the nod as it appears he has better instincts and also will do a better job in pass coverage. 31 is probably going to be a difficult pick to trade.

48 K. Reyes, DE/DT . Defensive line depth, possible updgrade over Deadrick or Love. BPA for our scheme at this point in the draft.

62 Brandon Boykin CB Develomental corner, can play in the nickle package, offers return value.

93: Brandon Taylor, S Has the tools and ability to develop as a solid safety. Over aggressiveness and bad angles among other flaws can be coached up.

126 Greg Childs, WR. We have 10 receivers currently, but they are all 30 are older. Childs is coming off injury or he may have gone in Rd 2.

There is a really good chance Gilmore is going in the top 10 (Jaguars.) Hill will be long gone by 48, some team is going to fall in love with his speed.

Both of these are really good mocks - but I have trouble seeing the Patriots taking Jenkins with their first pick, and I believe the Globe has stated we aren't interested in him.

Really? Did you just mention the Globe and the Patriots in the same sentence? They have about as much credibility as you or I. You may be right that they have no interest whatsoever with his troublesome past, but for all we know as armchair gm's he may be tops on their board and laying low on the guy. the same could be said for a lot of players in this draft.

With the draft relatively weak at the safety position the Patriots look in house with Sterling Moore, Devin McCourty or Ras I Dowling to fill the problem spot in the middle of the Patriots secondary.
Patriots pick up 5 top 100 picks yet still manage to procure 2013 1st and 3rd round picks.

31 Shea Mccllelin. OLB. Boise State. Snowball chance of happening. But let's dream!

2nd round

48 Harrison Smith. SS. Notre Dame. Projects to be a solid all around safety with physicality. Good ball skills. Sometimes solid is all you need. Especially if your secondary was a sieve in crunch time like last year.

62 Trumaine Johnson CB/S. Montana. Offers positional versatility on defense, special teams ability, and the occasional trick play as a former HS QB.

3rd round
93 Michael Brewster C/G. Ohio St. Because protecting the franchise is priority one. Has flexibility to swing to guard if need be.

4th round
126 Derek Wolfe DT Cincinatti. A disruptive defensive lineman who could contribute early in a role similar to Mike Wright.

27. Shea McClellin, LB, Boise State - Again... probably won't happen, but I could see Belichick falling in love with his versatility.

TRADE: Patriots trade #31 to Cleveland for #37, #118, and #211. Cleveland selects Brandon Weeden.

TRADE: Patriots trade #37 to Houston for a 2013 1st round pick and #121. Houston selects Stephen Hill.

48. Alameda Ta'amu, DT, Washington - Will give the Pats everything Ron Brace was supposed to - including the versatility to play Wilfork more at RDE.

62. Mychal Kendricks, LB, California - Replacement for Gary Guyton?

93. Markelle Martin, S, Oklahoma State - Great size, good smarts... Pats will think they can coach some of those footwork flaws out of his game.

118. Brandon Mosely, OT, Auburn - Nasty offensive linemen with decent feet. Likely a guard at the next level, but can play tackle in a pinch.

121. Derek Wolfe, DL, Cincinnati - Yup, I'm buying the hype here, too. Productive, versatile, and he fits a need.

126. Devon Wylie, WR, Fresno State - Wes Welker Starter Kit.

211. Cory Harkey, TE, Stanford - Yup, a Tight End. BB loves 'em, and I think Hernandez plays more WR this year. Harkey's a great blocker.

Ok, here are 2 mocks. One with trades and one without

A. Trades -

1. Pats trade Ryan Mallet to the Browns for #37. For all the reasons already given

2. They Trade the 93 to the Saints for their 3rd and 5th round picks in 2013 - The Saints need picks this year

3. They Trade the 126 to the Colts for their 3rd round pick in 2013 and Silvestri Colts get a pick and a body

4. They trade the 27, 37, and Sergio Brown to the Eagles for the 11th pick - Pats need to sweeten the deal and give the Eagles a decent special teamer.

5. We trade the 31 to the Colts for the 34th and 97, 214 The Colts pay a small premium to jump the Giants to get Fleener.

The Pats now own the #11, 34, 48, 62, 97, 214th picks

11. - Quentin Coples - Top 5 talent that has dropped due to a questionable motor. BB has determined that part of the problem was in the NC program where he wasn't challenged enough. He will certainly be challenged here. Some risk, but very high rewards and BB takes a shot - A situational rusher from both the edge and inside now - eventually he'll get to 300 and be a 3 down 3-4 DE BTW - I'd take Cox here if he were available, but I doubt it.

34- Shea McCellin - OLB/DE - he or Branch will be here. I'd take either and be happy. In this scenario I'll take Shea who reminds me a lot of Ryan Kerrigan - Situational player this year, he needs to get stronger

48- Janoris Jenkins CB- He falls this far and no farther. The risk is now well worth the
reward

62- Trumaine Johnson CB - projected to be the coverage S the Pats are looking for long term. - I'd take Iloki here if Johnson is gone

97- Ryan Miller OT - No impact this year but could be in a year or two at RT - Billy Winn, Baquette, and Wolfe are possibilities if available

214- Dale Moss - WR - a perfect guy to bring in and put on the PS for a year. He has the size and youth we need long term....but not next year. tip of the hat to OTG for this guy
