the entire Boston press STILL hasn't found the way out of Francona's colon...meanwhile, the Valentine led Sawx have taken 3 straight from the Rays, the team that was a mystery to the "Blessed Ter" for 9 years....Bobby V is ruffling feathers just like BB did...I think he's got more in common with Beli than Francoma could ever dream of...

In Valentines defense, Youkilis has been beyond worthless since the start of Spring Training. He shouldnt have said anything, but seriously he can't hit worth a damn right now and his fielding is sub par.

Somwhow I doubt BB would let the backup QB and long snapper sit in the dressing room and eat fried chicken and drink beer during a game.

Two World Series wins doesn't hide the fact that the red Sox have had issues the past three years.

No, but winning 2 World Series and having last season repeat itself 50 times in a row, is still a win for Red Sox fans, given everyone that ever came before Francona.

Francona was one of the very best managers the Red Sox ever had, and he was generally polite and gracious with his time. Valentine is a putz who eventually alienates himself from every MLB team he goes to. That might have something to do with it.

This is akin to when Shanahan got fired in Denver.

After another season ending debacle in 2008, the owner didn't like the pattern or the vision.....so it was change time.

It's obvious in this case, the owner was on the same wavelength.

There is validity in both retention and release. It's something he has to decide and had valid reasons either way.

Exactly.

The Patriot Way stands out so sharply compared to a me-me-me guy like Valentine. BB is the antithesis to a leader who is love with the sound of his own voice. The day Valentine was hired, I said that will be a slow motion car crash. I'm only surprised that it is hitting the fan so very quickly.

Belichick's managerial style trumps the Globies' hero every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

The thread is about this season.

If the Red Sox want to rest on the laurels of 2004 and 2007, then perhaps they should stop selling tickets and just play the highlight videos from those seasons on the jumbotron.

Meanwhile the Patriots are in BUSINESS continually.

THE COMMENT I RESPONDED TO was about 'problems' in the last 3 years being covered up by 2 World Series.
I am pointing out that given the history of the Red Sox, Terry Francona's tenure was an incredible success, and would have been if they went 0-162 in every season other than 04 and 07.

I have no problem with that, I am just saying it is foolish to call Francona's tenure in Boston anything but a rousing success.

I agree it has been a great success.

Except for periods, of relief management, I never had any qualms about his management had really think he took alot of unfair criticism.

But Francona is not there anymore.

The decision to blame it on Francona was an unmitigated disaster. The minute he was out the door, that franchise lost all credibility. Hiring Bobby Microphone shows they are the New York Jets now. While my son still has the Red Sox Fever (he's young and innocent enough to just "root for the laundry") he is also beginning to take more of an interest in the Washington Nationals, and I'm happy for that.

They should have shipped off the walking cancers of Beckett and Lackey and built a statue to Francona. A franchise is judged on the people who make it up.

What they did was akin to coddling Terry Glenn while firing Bill Belichick. Yet it is Belichick who is denigrated by the baseball loving Shaughnessy's, Cafardos and Massarottis.

Why anyone would want to waste their time eating what the Boston Globe serves (marketing the Sox and deriding the Pats) is beyond belief.

John Henry isn't the best of owners is he?

Without knowing much about the Sox this year because I don't have the channel that shows MLB at the minute, the firing of Francona & the way Liverpool are being run at the minute (from signings to managerial appointments).

Thankfully, unlike the other sports teams I support (Leeds Utd being a big example), the Patriots are run by passionate, smart businessmen who want to win.

I think you have me mixed up with someone else.
I am the guy who responded to the comment that 2 rings masked problems in the last 3 years by saying those 2 rings far, far, far outweigh any negative you want to put on anything in the last 3 years.

Brady must be slipping letting this guy marry into his family. :p

Look at the horrible, immature, managerial incompetence crap others have to put up with. Can there be a better comparison of the differences of true managerial leadership in the same market?

Youkilis 'confused' by Valentine remarks; manager apologizes - Extra Bases - Red Sox blog

Thank you, Bob Kraft and Bill Belichick.

The Globies must be gnashing their teeth while they cook up new ways to market the Sox and bash the Pats.

Media tried to make a story that did not exist. If anyone listens to the question and entire response it's clear Valentine was not bashing Youk. On the other hand ... Youk is getting a bit soft - must be the love bug. :p

What in the hell would ever cause you to make that sort of sh***ty comment? Kevin Y. is a Patriot in a Red Sox uniform and always has been. He busts his ***** all the time and always plays hard. I don't get the crap he seems to get from people lately. If he's done, he's done, but it won't because he ever loafed or coasted.
