Update - NFL Network to drop bankrupt Sapp

Sapp, who reportedly filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in Florida amid debts of up to $6.7 million, has not appeared on the network since he controversially outed former Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey on air as the "snitch" who prompted the league's probe into the franchise. He first made the allegation on Twitter.

Shockey vehemently denied the accusation, with the support of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, while the NFL Network stepped away from Sapp's claims and warned him not to overstep his role as an analyst.

Sapp's contract expires in August and is not expected to be renewed, a source told the Globe.

Although a network spokesman refused to discuss his status, another source confirmed to the newspaper that Sapp was yet to be booked in for another on-air appearance.

Sapp was understood to be paid $540,000 annually from the analyst job, according to his bankruptcy filing late last month in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

It's a shame to see someone making over half a million dollars a year, coming of a multi-million dollar career, declare bankruptcy.

Sapp really blew his opportunity. The NFL job looked like it required limited hours, 20 weeks a year or so, but created an opportunity for other engagements. With that platform, he could get speaking roles, appearances, probably endorsements (as I write this, Charles Barkley is smiling at me in the banner above showing off his 40 pound loss as a paid endorser for Weight Watchers). So he could have had time enough to double his work output and still take 10 weeks of vacation.

Second, $540K? Seriously? They can't get those guys for less than that? There are a lot of other people offering them $300K, $400K for their time?

Actually, I believe it's the fact that he identified Shockey as the possible snitch that got him in the mess with NFLN. As I understand it, Sapp could be in legal trouble for identifying a possible whistle blower.

The fact that Sapp might have outed a whistle-blower could pose a problem for the analyst and the NFL, according to Los Angeles-based employment lawyer Arthur Whang, the principal of Whang Law Firm.
“Sapp is technically a league employee,” Whang said. “If Shockey is the whistle-blower, he is protected. So, by outing him, Sapp may have opened Shockey up to retaliation, such as someone not signing him.“

One thing that has bugged me about Sapp is his tendency to equate football with "manhood" and "going to war" and "being a man," etc., etc. Just goes to show how some of these guys who've never lived in the real world believe that playing a game is the biggest measure of a person.

Mayock is great, Charles Davis is ok. Prime playing his roll, Much is alright...rest of the analyst crew are truly awful.
Maybe we'll see more of Heath Evans now but likely a new -not-so-funny-big mouth-ex-pro coming in :bricks:

I agree ........ he always compares/talks about football as if it is a war zone and the players shouldn't complain if they lose their lives playing it....I for one will be glad if he is gone.............wasn't he one of the people who would sing the irritating tebow.....teboooooooooowwwwwww chant after every instance of Tim Tebow videos being played on nfln?

Sapp Probably has an offshore bank account with several million in his Swiss account so that when Shockey and his lawyers come calling to sue,he won't get wiped out.

I would bet more than just a few pro athletes are hiding serious cash outside the US borders and away from Uncle Sam's outstretched arms.
