Since everybody wants to trade out first anyway. They'd have to throw something in for doing that. A 3? we're getting less than last year's trade down. But, worth it because hard to see them going 13-3. I doubt if they will have as good a season as last year with all the turmoil they've had. Heck, they could miss the playoffs. They lost their 2nd rounder because of Bountygate. They're going to be dying to pick before 90. They had some free agent losses in Meachem and Nicks. Gives them an extra year to figure things out and only costs them a 3 or 4. They are gambling that things are all kosher down there.

Not going to happen. Let's say the Saints give up this year's 3rd and next year's 1st. That leaves them with 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 this year and 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 next year. They're not going to give up 2 of their 3 highest picks over these next two years for a late 1st now. And they're not really in the position to be mortgaging the future to win now. If anything, they should trade back with their picks now and try to turn this year's 3rd into a 2nd next year or something like that.

Yeah, the Saints don't really have the ammunition to be moving into the 1st round. They would have to trade a player.

What about Will Smith, plus their 1st next year. I would take that phone call, but they would never do it.

In 2007 we traded the 28th overall to SF for their 1st the next year and their 4th that year which was 110. This year's pick is almost a full round higher. 90th. Of course I don't think NO will be as bad as SF. But, they will miss Sean Payton. He runs that offense along with Brees.

Very good point.

Many folks often look at the most recent trade as The Standard Bearer For All Future Trades, but any cursory glance at History shows that the relative value of any given Pick can change dramatically from one year to the next.

As you note: A 2013 Saints 1st Rounder is hardly worth a 2008 Miners 1st Rounder.

Of course, it's closer, now, than it had been.

This year's 1st Rounder and last year's 2nd ~ for our 2011 1st Rounder ~ was a good barometer of normal Market Value...And I hardly think that the Saints are about to collapse.

Of course, if they do, you are elevated to Genius level, my friend!!

But a 3rd Rounder just doesn't seem like enough, to me, at this point.

Ironically, it is San Fran themselves who have been my favorite target for a replication of last year's New Orleans trade ~ a 2 and a 1 for a 1 ~ as I consider them to be strong candidates for a Sophomore Slump ~ maybe a nice 7-9 for #15??

Doesn't seem like there was much value in the trade at the time, but maybe BB knew SF was going to be bad the year after? It's expected NO will be worse next year so maybe it could happen.

I think the dominant driver in the 2007 trade was the Patriots evaluated the talent pool as absolutely horrendous, and they were doing everything that they could to get out of that draft with any value from either trades for players, or trades for future picks.

Well, that's an Indianapolis strategy. It earned them a superbowl and the #1 overall pick just a few years later.

Following that strategy, we wouldn't have six good picks this year, we'd only have four. Why hate what's brought us this far? We've got the smartest front office in the league. How about we let them do what they've been doing for the last decade?
