Per NFL network the Baltimore Ravens have come to a contract agreement extension with Webb.

Good now the talk can end, was never going to happen anyways.

And the stupid money continues to flow. . . .

This one's nowhere near as stupid as some. (although it's still stupid on some level)

There are a ton of CB's in the 8 million dollar range.

To be fair, hes statistically the 2nd best corner in the league right now (best if you include playoffs). He didn't give up ANY touchdowns and QB's when throwing at him had a passer rating of only 55.

He's worth 8million per season IMO

They did take a bit of a gamble still in terms of him being a one hit wonder.

Besides that, there's really no big deal.

8 million+ for a solid CB is nothing new. The 50 million and 20 guaranteed are impressive, but it is over a long 6 yr period of time.

Kind of a risky contract for a guy who doesn't have an extensive body of work.

Though his play last year does justify this kind of money.

Timing is sometimes everything in the NFL.

I think the Ravens got a bargain as long as last year wasn't a fluke. The Jets gave Cromartie 4 years, $32 million to be a #2 CB and he is a boom or bust player who can be as much of a liability as an asset depending on the game. So Webb is gettting the same amount per year as Cromartie and he was a better CB playing against teams' #1 WR last year with more upside.

It doesn't seem stupid to me. I can guarantee you that it would have cost much more for a free agent with the same skills. Stupid is what the Bills did.

And THAT is why I didn't want the Pats to give up a 1st for him. He's making close to 5 times as much per year as the 31st overall pick will.

Yeah hes atleast 10 times better than your average late 1st round draft pick

He's also too tall and not injury prone enough for the pats liking  .

He was very good last year. The Ravens are betting at least $20M that last season wasn't a fluke. Would anyone here have bet against McCourty a year ago?

I like how some people think nobody anywhere is worth any big contract whatsoever

Lots of players are worth a big contract. But not a CB who:

Is under 5'10".
Would cost a first round pick.
Has had only one good season.
Was not a starter in training camp last year.
Had 7 of his 8 interceptions against bad to average QBs (the 8th, ironically, being Brady).
Tore an ACL two years ago.
Had his one good year behind a top-3 pass rush.

Based on his play last year, he can be put in the cluster of CBs behind Revis. (Joseph, Asomugha, Flowers, Webb, old Bailey, etc.)

It's a good contract if he continues his play, but then again it's only one year to go by and Mccourty was arguably the 3rd best CB in the league after his rookie year :(

It's always good when the tougher competition overrates and overpays players, so I'm happy with this signing.

It sucks when them overrating a player sets the price for everyone else, too.
