Don't shoot the messenger, but I saw this online:

While most have the New England Patriots selecting a pass rushing linebacker in round one we hear a smaller linebacker who can cover is just as great a need on their draft board. Could the team take a player such as Bobby Wagner at the end of round one? Its’ definitely not out of the question

Pre-Draft Insider News & Notes: April 4th

If they were going to do that, they'd take Zach Brown over Wagner. And neither of them are worth a 1st round pick.

BTW, when has Tony Pauline EVER had a scoop on the Patriots and the draft???

Don't know. I am no draftnick. In fact, I am a draft invalid.

All I know is that Wagner would be a signficant surprise pick as first rounder. That is how much my draft knowledge goes. Just passing along something I saw.

Why? Bobby Wagner's stock is on the rise whilst Brown's is on the wane and he's a poor Patriot fit, character-wise to boot.. If that's the route, I'd rather have Lavonte David than the other two though.

How does he compare to Vrabel? :D

From reading that, it seems like Wagner was just speculation, while the desire for a cover LB is a report.

I watched some film, ready to be a hater. I like his game. Read and react player. Good in coverage. Not overpowering rusher, but can make plays. Good tackler. Doesn't get fooled by the screen pass. Overall, there's a lot to like.

Is this first round talent? Maybe, yes? He would be a great help on third down, which has been such a crap shoot last few years. Do you spent #31 on a guy you project as a third down player? I'd be more inclined to wait for him at 48.

Neither Wagner or Brown are a good fit for the Patriots.. That's my point. I would thought that was plainly obvious. And Wagner's stock isn't rising worth a damn.

I want, no I need lavonte david. Throw in a good wide receiver and i'll call it a day during the draft.

All of that is very well...

If Mad Bill deems that the Schemes warrant an heavy investment in a Coverage MidFielder, then to that extent, at least, I believe we have every reason to trust in'is judgment.

Indeed, I, personally, like the idea a great deal.

But if the Patriots invest heavy Draft Capital in a Coverage MidFielder, then there is one name, and one name, alone, that I hope to hear, with all due respect to Zach Brown and Bobby Wagner:

LaVonte David.

Isn't this why we have Tarp? How much improvement is replacing him with another 'cover LB' going to make? A 1st (or even 2nd) round pick seems like an awfully big investment for a guy who wouldn't be viewed as an every down player.

You just want him so he can be in there with your 5 CB's on 3rd down. :p

people just dont understand how great david is. I advise everyone to watch lavonte david vs michigan and he does what you see in that clip every game. I have been a fan for over two years now. When you watch a nebraska game you cannot ignore this kid. i wanted to see what the hype was about jared crick and stumbled onto him awhile back.

If you say so. I must have imagined his climb from the fourth round to the high end of the second round.

He's an outstanding player. If he was more of a fit for the Pats, he'd be right near the top of my wanted prospects.

Lavonte David?? All he does is make tackles.(I stole my scouting report from Buddy Ryan on Cris Carter..All he does is catch touchdowns). I've seen him a lot too. I remember the first game I saw him play last year against K-ST and Daniel Thomas. Had about 25 tackles. Against PSU this year. There was a key 4th and one late in the game. PSU blocked the play pretty well and Silas Redd(A pretty good young back) hits the hole with a lot of space except for David. Lavonte stood him up and kept him from gaining the 1st down. All Silas Redd had to do was fall forward after being hit and he couldn't. I'd love to get a de and pass rushing olb in the first. And, a guy like David or Wagner at 63. Hope we can get a safety at 48.

screw wagner.....give me bruce irvin anyday
