Greg Williams Speech before the 49ers game

He needs to tour Afghanistan a few times.

No wonder his suspension was so harsh. Didn't know it was that bad until I heard that. Ruining acls, smashing players heads into the ground under the pile, twisting ankles, targeting concussions. Wow. And calling out individual players by name and number. Goodell had to act on this one. For those who thought the punishment was too severe may have to reconsider their stance.

Funny comments below in the article.

Greg Williams, Did you order the Code Red? You're goddamn right I did!!!!

90% of what he says is repeated in every pre game speech delivered by a DC. It's the other 10%, the over the top admonitions to specifically target individual players ACL's or take head shots and keep inflicting damage on the head even after the play and even if you weren't initially part of the hit - that and the money being directly tied to it by the DC himself that underscores why Goodell had to come down on NO the way he did. Loomis and Payton knew who he was and what he did when they hired him. They gave him carte blanche - hell, Sean even paid $250K of his salary to keep him there in 2010-11 - and even after being repeatedly warned by the league to cease any bounty program they simply chose not to do anything to stop it even though it violated league rules on multiple grounds - not to mention the way Williams perverted it moral and legal grounds. All at a time when the league and the union and their own QB were pushing a hightened health and safety agenda on behalf of all players. Including players who are now increasingly suing the league for not doing enough to enhance their safety earlier...

Friggin' self absorbed, arrogant morons - which is why they make the best example and deserve to be made one.

And anyone who still can't see the lack of rational correlation between this and being punished and made an example of for violating an administrative rule about camera placement beyond Goodell firing a warning shot across their collective bows is an equally self absorbed, arrogant moron. Like the idiot owners in Dallas and Washington who apparently still don't get it. This isn't the good old days of leather helmets and cowboy owners pushing the envelope and rolling the dice. You're either part of the collective and you play by the rules or you pose a threat to it's greater good and you're going to be brought to heel by any and all available means.

Who Greg Williams apparently is and what he does represents a slap in the face to every competent FO and coaching staff in the league who labors to build a solid team and coach it up to do their job in relation to all the rules. Williams so called system consisted of being a glorified cheerleader who simply strove to tap in to the worst aspect of his players natural competitive drive and pervert it into something destructive to them and their opponents - who happen to be their peers and also their partners in this modern day NFL. You wonder why so many of these guys scoff at or mock rules - it's because guys like Williams have encouraged them to believe they are beyond being ruled by idiots in suits. Goodell is in the process of giving them all a long overdue lesson in consequence. Welcome to reality and the business of football in the twenty first century, gentlemen.

Geez, does that play into the concussion lawsuit but BIGTIME.

paraphrased:
'Go for the head, ... in the pile dont get up with out hitting the head
...
#10 had a concussion we have to test it.'

Holy F****** S***, Batman.

I hope you took care of your money, Gregg.

Fu(K that P.O.S. I hope he never coaches another play in his life.

After hearing this I don't think he will ever get back into the league. In fact I think the commissioner has a responsibility to ban him for life.

Goodell certainly had to have had this as part of the evidence. He can't ban him twice; he already gave out his decision to just suspend him.

Ban is well deserved; but I just dont see Goodell doing it. He wants to close the book on this rapidly; not go back and revisit punishments by either appeals for leniency (payton) or by increasing already issued penalties.

He doesn't have to revisit or increase anything if he doesn't want to. Williams is suspended indefinitely.

Players have been trying to injure their opponents since before Pacino knew how to scream, they know of their specific injuries and try their best to exploit them.

All Williams did was speak the unspoken truth, and for that crime he'll be destroyed.

Alright, I don't get it: Why isn't this front-page news on ESPN right now?? And why only 302 views on youtube? I'm not claiming conspiracy; just wondering how this is being missed in an age where information spreads so quickly.. Is this not a major piece of evidence that even further destroys the Saints' reputation for years to come? To emply an over-used catch-phrase: Where's the outrage??

Can the NFL make an exception for the Rams game so we can hang 50 on this POS again?

Yeah, and he ran a program to pay guys to injure people. Other than that, he really didn't do anything wrong.

See, I think that's garbage. Maybe I'm naive. I'm sure a certain percentage of players have always thought that way, but to think this version of "leadership" - getting your team fired up, not for playing well, but specifically for injuring other players...I'm just not ready to admit its as widespread (or was) as you do SE..

What scum...pure scum

Goodell is big on redemption. He will use Williams as a tool, as he did with the dog killer. Williams will not only testify wherever and whenever, he will become the poster boy for culture change, probably addressing rookie symposiums and coaching symposiums on how not to coach and play defense at all levels of football. If he does that he will probably be given another shot in the league, although it may be a while before he coordinates a defense again despite Fisher's arrogance in holding a first year slot open for him on a team neither of them had earned a nickle from to date... Goodell may keep that suspension indefinite just long enough to show Fisher whose boss.

Wow..

What is crazy is that the Saints where under investigation, and where told to stop with this type of stuff by the league before the playoffs. And not only do the Saints continue with it. This idiot Williams is saying all this stuff in front of a camera.

No way Williams is ever getting back in the league..

Look I played football for years and can't remember ANYONE ever saying lets hit them in the head and the knees. This is unacceptable period. These guys are professionals and this is how they feed their families. NFL contracts are not guarenteed and you are telling your guys to go out and target heads and knees (the two injuries that have ended more NFL careers by far).

I'm sure that the Saints are happy that this came out the day before their appeals are going to be heard. They will be lucky if (former Jets employlee) Godell doesn't INCREASE their punishments.

What it does show you is that the Pats did the right thing by cooperating fully with the NFL and not trying to cover anything up. The penalties that the Pats recevied now pale to what the Saints got.

So the Saints knew they were being re-investigated and prior to the last game that they played, they told their players to go out and target the knees and heads of the opposition. As Ricky Ricardo would say, You got some splainin to do.....
