The better team really won

Ummm yeah they are excuses. Just like the tons of excuses we are all accustomed to seeing out of opposing teams fans througout all these years of our teams dynasty run.

You see us Pats fans are used to other teams fans coming over here and giving us reasons why their team lost to the Pats when they feel they shouldn't have. it happens every single year, all the time. We are used to it in fact. Inevitably the other teams fans drop by and post the list of plays in the game noting all these reasons why the Pats eventually won the game that their team "gave away".

I hope the knowlegable fans at least feel fortunate. Because they know how this game could have gone either way.

Same old same old.

Every year opposing fans come here and tell us us fortunate and lucky we are to have won the game as we did. You know, after it happens all the time as it does, we are immune to the nonesensical jibberish that we are inundated with season after season.

Out team knows how to win football games. They are the masters at doing so. Even when others don't believe that they should be winning these games, our team does win them. We win the games we are supposed to win and we win the games we aren't supposed to win. We just win games. And it drives opposing fans nuts.

The regular Pats fans who post in here realize how fortunate we are. But believe me when I tell you that most of those knowledgeable fans don't feel fortunate to win yesterday's game. Most of us simply expect to win games like yesterday's. It's just how this team operates. It's par for the course with this Pats dynasty. This is something very few opposing teams fans can understand.

We do go thru it every year and, truthfully, though unintentional by those who point it out, ultimately they are paying this Pats dynasty the ultimate compliment. They are just too stupid to realize it.
Oh thanks. We come here to lick our wounds, pay tribute and state the obvious.

For this we are called stupid. You can learn a lot from reading posts from other Pat fans who don't share your little d*ck complex.

EXACTLY.

Here I'll join your little charade. You guys just tore up the Chargers. They were hardly in the game. LT got nothing the Pats just shut him down. Brady shredded their D. Dillon and Maroney just ran all over them. How did the Chargers even get the #1 seed?

There I hope you guys like that rather than the truth. My god you guys need a little slice of humble pie. I really expected a little more class from you guys.

Buddy,

LT = Lawrence Taylor.

(Just thought I'd let you know).

Gotta call a timeout here.

Ummm there are a lot of factors that helped you guys win. I wouldn't puff up the win to much here. You guys got the W but pretty much it was in the Chargers hands the entire game.

Things that allowed the comeback win

1. Mainly dropped passes. 9. That has nothing to do with your D. Our guys acted like they've never been there and it showed.

2. Had McRee just knocked down that 4th down pass instead of trying to be a hero and getting it stripped the game most likely would have been over at that point.

3. On the punt fumble had Parker just jumped on the ball after his muff instead of trying to pick it up it would have been a game changer as well.

4. All the stupid bone headed personal fouls. Just stupid players making stupid plays.

5. Marty wasting timeouts as if they wouldn't need them in the end.

6. Marty going for it on 4 and 11 instead of a field goal? That was a 6 point swing right there.

These are not excuses. These are how you lose a game. Chargers did everything they needed to lose the game. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

I am not taking anything away from your win. You did what you needed to do, hang around and wait for an opportunity. But please don't puff it up as if you guys went out and dominated the Chargers.

Grats again. Should be an interesting game sunday.

Good post. The Chargers are an excellent team, loaded in most areas. Pats definitely got some breaks, and nobody would claim that NE dominated the game.

The only counterpoints I would make are:

- the Pats had quite a few unforced errors as well, primarily from Brady. If he makes the plays you expect him to, the Pats would have had a lot more points on the board

- the Pats played best in the 4th quarter, which is a hallmark of their success. I think they are the only team this year to outscore SD in the 4th qtr. And most of the SD errors occurred earlier in the game

- the Pats D deserves a lot of credit for holding SD to 14 points in the 1st half, when the Chargers were starting every drive around mid-field it seemed. And the 2-minute drive at the end of the half was huge too.

The game had similarities to our loss last year to Denver - we outgained them and still lost through mistakes. At least the officials didn't affect yesterday's game. So we know how you feel.

Only for homers like you. For everyone else LT = LaDainian Tomlinson.

You do know this is NOT a NY Giants fan site, right?

If you are here to pay tribute then this "stupid" point obviously doesn't apply to you.

However, if you are here to tell us that we won and you lost because of the mistakes that you made without acknoweledging the mistakes that the Pats made, then yes you are one of those opposing fans that I called out as stupid.

None of that's true, of course. The Chargers played a very good game and are a really, really good team. But, it's not true that their mistakes "cost" them the game any more than the Patriots' mistakes nearly cost the game. Football's an intense game and a HUGE part of the game is which team deals with the intensity the best. A great example is the muffed punt. That was the most likely the result of a guy trying to do too much in an important situation. Last year, there were plenty of Patriots fans saying they should have won the game against Denver, if only ... (refs/turnovers/etc). But Denver beat the Patriots by putting too much pressure on Brady and stopping NE (bad) running game.

Yesterday, the Patriots beat the Chargers by keeping them from getting into scoring position too often and playing better football at the pressure points of the game. I'm sorry if it comes across as arrogance, but this has just happened over and over this decade. A team loses to the Patriots, then goes on and on about how they could've just "eliminated mistakes" and they'd be heading on. Well, it just doesn't work that way. You need to stand up mentally to the Patriots relentlessness, or you're going home. And that's what happened yesterday. The Patriots didn't give up on a single drive, even in the face of an excellent Chargers team, one that matched up very well against them.

I commend the Chargers team; it really is an excellent team and will probably be a force for the next few years at least (young, strong, fast, talented). But to blame the loss on their mistakes ... well, it's like the Raiders, Steelers, Rams, Titans, Colts, etc, etc ... they all said the same thing. I think the only year it didn't happen much was 04/05.

edit: Oh, and LT equals LaDainian Tomlinson these days ... it hasn't meant "coke-addled linebacker who's a scary force on the field" for a few years now.

I would agree with that. There wasn't a hair's breadth separating these two teams - the Patriots had superior poise, coaching, and clutch play, the Chargers had superior physical talent. Any of a thousand little things being different could have turned the balance of the outcome.

But, in the end, it didn't. The Patriots did win the game, and they did deserve to win. The first time this band of Patriots overcame long odds to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat (in the January 2002 "Snow Bowl" game), it seemd like a fluke. But after 6 years of seeing them win this kind of game consistently, you can no longer believe it is just luck. Call it divine intervention, if you will, but somehow, someway, our guys always seem to get it done with the game on the line.
