Broncos reportedly in the mix for SNF opener..

Maybe it's just me being a Pats fan, but if they choose Denver they'd be idiots to not make it Broncos-Pats, Brady-Manning showdown.

Makes sense, but I think you want to get Manning a few games in to make sure he's playing at a reasonable level. I'm sure the Jets will get to play Manning early i nthe season ;). We want him at full strength (or a reasonable approximation).

I'm sure Denver was already in the mix when they had Tebow, and may be just as much or even more so with Manning. What a way to start the year that would be.

I'd hope Pats get a few games under their belt to let the new D get the kinks worked out.........

I like it better when we play them in November, personally. But then again, the Pats don't generally lose home openers. If this is one of the hardest games of our season, maybe it's better to have it at the beginning.

They are not going to do that..they want Manning to win his first game back.

The Jets don't play Denver this year. We only play them because we each came in first. We get Denver at home and at Baltimore. While they play SD at home and travel to Pittsburgh.

Regardless, though, I do hope we play them primetime. I'd say, we'll get, what, 5 PT games since there's TNF all year that adds a few more slots. I think I'd have these 5 for us-

1.Denver
2.Yets
3.9'ers
4.Ravens
5.Houston

(Bills, Fins, Titans, Cards are also options.)

Tough call, I think they would love to highlight his return but wouldn't want him facing NE in NE to start the season.

I have to think NBC saves Pats-Denver for a Sunday night in November, replacing the annual Pats-Colts sweeps period game.

Re: Broncos reportedly in the mix for SNF opener..

The Broncos are at the Patriots and they'll want a game in Denver with the crowd going nuts. Pats vs Broncos will be a big draw any week.

HOME:
Oakland Raiders
Kansas City Chiefs
San Diego Chargers
Pittsburgh Steelers
Cleveland Browns
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
New Orleans Saints
Houston Texans

My bet would be the Raiders. Division game, rivalry but a team with a poor defense he can light up and get fans excited.

I'm aware, I was only referring to Denver when they still had Tebow as their QB instead of Manning.

Re: Broncos reportedly in the mix for SNF opener..

I'd hold off on Brady/Manning until late September early October. It gives Manning a few weeks to get back into the flow. If he's not getting into the flow or the Broncos are looking like a bad team they can still sell that Brady Manning match up before a November or December game where the Broncos are eliminated from the playoffs or something.

Re: Broncos reportedly in the mix for SNF opener..

I think it should be Steelers/Broncos. Rematch of last year's playoff (although one team's offense is completely different) and plus it's Manning vs. Roethlisberger and they get to show Peyton at home. Great matchup.

=======================

Other than the Thursday night kickoff game the NFL rarely schedules two top tier teams together for a week one primetime game. Why? Probably because interest is so high that they are going to get very good ratings regardless of what teams are playing. They most likely figure it is better to wait and schedule those games later; the very best matchups being placed during ratings sweeps weeks.

With that in mind I would not expect the Pats to be playing teams like the Broncos, Ravens, 49ers, etc. in a week one night game.

Re: Broncos reportedly in the mix for SNF opener..

JMT made the point I was going to

The NFL doesn't need any underlying drama to hype up the first week of football. Rating are already going to be sky high.

Wait until midseason to throw out the Brady-Manning stuff. They can milk that for awhile when all the season opening stuff has been beaten to death.

I believe Kraft said the league is making the first 3 and last 3 all division games. Not sure if it's this season. I welcome it though.
