Skins & Cows File Complaint Against NFL & NFLPA

While I like opposing teams to be hampered... And I do believe they were trying to pull fast ones to cover their poor past dealings.......

I thoroughly enjoy anybody sticking it to Roger "The Jet Whisperer" Goodell :D

Good for them.

Not a fan of either owner - especially Snyder - but this arbitrary, after-the-fact justice is typical God-ell.

I think the most salient point is that all the transactions were approved by the NFL - retrospective rule making is utter BS.

Worth noting that a lot of players wanted teams punished for frontloading deals into the uncapped year....some players even lobbied for teams that did to be punished under the new CBA just as much as the NFL did.

Alas, naive people will just blame Goodell.

They were told not to do it, they did anyway. Idiots.

Legally Goodell has little to stand on as the 'agreement' among owners was collusion. However I'm sure these self absorbed billionaires have alienated their peer group fellow owners with this blatant FU approach to the collective process that the vast majority followed. Not that either of these arrogant bastids care.

But were they told in a manner, through a mechanism, that will hold legal water? I for one want Goodell's face pushed into this mess, because he overstepped with the Pats' penalties and got away with it. He and the NFL front office shouldn't be allowed to rule through memo's that express their preferences for what rules should be in force. Rule making is for the owners to do. When a contract is approved, it is approved.

It's hard because Snyder and Jones are very unlikable. But not that hard.

Meh, I don't really care how he did it. The NFLPA also requested the NFL made it part of the agreement that the 'Skins and 'Boys got punished. Other owners backed it when the CBA was signed and the owners had to agree to that detail.

I live in England where Manchester United are going for an unprecedented 13th Premier League title in 20 years....I'm a big fan of the cap, the parity it creates and a fan of watching anyone suffer who try and screw everyone else over in it.

It really wasn't. The agreement was about accounting. And basically said if you try to throw future money into the 2010 cap with atypical manuevers, they will not allow it, and recast it to the future years it was truly intended for. Thats not collusion, and there was zero impact on player compensation.

They were told IIRC 6 separate times that this would happen.

Jerry Jones had better tread easy if he wants to host another Superbowl.

Collusion is not considered a good thing in U.S. labor law.

This isn't about collusion. It's about accounting. They were free to spend like drunken sailors to their hearts content.

I imagine they will find little sympathy at the meeting with the 30 partners they believed they could attempt to gain competitive advantage against. The same guys who will be voting on things that might benefit them down the road, like Super Bowls...

I like what Mara said, they're lucky they didn't get docked draft picks...:D

Correct. The issue is about how they would handle the accounting of contracts signed when there was no cap that carried forward to when there was a cap.
There had to be a rule. The existence of a rule is not collusion.

I find it interesting that the league is punishing the Redskins and Cowboys for getting out of cap hell with front loaded player contracts when the new CBA got several teams, like the Jets, out of cap hell because it forgave those teams dead cap space due to bad contracts.

I can't remember all of the details. If I am remembering this wrong please correct me.

He's 100 times a better human being than Dan Snyder.

Keep it in perspective.

Exactly.

How is this less bad than filming from the wrong spot in a stadium?

They are different issues.
The Redskins and Cowboys RESIGNED or RESTRUCTURED contracts to move future hits backward into 2010, after being advised they would not be allowed to count that money into 2010. Dallas for example called Miles Austins signing bonus a salary so that it all counted in the uncapped year instead of being amortized over the contract.

The Jets issue regarded players cut with respect to window of the uncapped league year, lock out, and the new CBA.

The real difference was Dallas and Wash manipulated the rules, and the league allowed the Jets and others to write the dead money into the just ending league year.
