Stallworth discusses return to Patriots

“I’ve emailed him(Brady). We’ve always kept in touch, even before I played with the Patriots. So that didn’t stop. He was just saying how he’s excited to be able to get started back with this season, and glad to have me back a part of it. Whenever we can get started, I’m ready to go. I’m excited.”

It seems like Stallworth matured a little. Cant wait for the season!

I have to disagree , stallworth was signed before moss to play the deep part of the field. Gaff is a more of a middle to shorter type WR .

When was Moss was added he took all the outside deep routes from stallworth, now stallworth role decreased as Moss took his routes and wes operating in his zone .gaffney`s game complemented that team being in the middle of Wes and Moss.right now gaff will be useless as Gronk and Hernandaz run routes in the same areas as Gaff.

It has not a lot of bearing on how stallworth played , he also ran like a RB once he gets the ball in his hands.

I know he is different now but the outside guy is gonig to be stallworth,branch on one side. you want both to give you One a good WR production this time around.

As someone who has long felt he was under-utilized in the 2nd half of the 2007 season, no one would like to see him do well more than I...

But that being said, he's had a tough time staying healthy since leaving the Patriots (not to mention the penal system).

He's had good flashes but will need to sustain that to make the team - so it's largely in his hands. I do believe having another deep threat would be beneficial to the offense if he can be effective.

i don't think he'll be that great, he may not even make the team at this point, but maturity was never a problem with him imo. He conducted himself with class when he was here and after he left. Yes he made a bad off the field mistake, but I really think that's irrelevant to his character as a football player.

I remember reading from a couple of sources that Gaffney took Stallworth's reps in the 2nd half of the season because he was doing a better job of being in the right place at the right time. I'm not saying those sources were right, but I swear I remember reading it.

I remember him catching screens for some reason. I think he scored a TD on one in the Dallas game. Regardless, I've always liked him and hope this second chance works out for all parties.

I think it would be wrong to assume Stallworth factors big into any plans as of yet. The offense needs a solid outside threat, and as of now the candidates include Branch, Stallworth, Lloyd, and Oochocinco--all talented guys, all capable of being the answer, and the TC competition between them all should produce a player that BB and Brady can trust.

If it turns out that Branch is the man, and all those exciting signings go down the tubes, I say great--it would mean Branch beat out three talented guys, deserves to be the man, and is a player in 2012 that can give us what we need.

which is why, its nice to have all these veteran options in Training camp...you can never plan for injuries in the NFL

we need an outside guy(ocho, stallworth) to be lloyds backup though....so branch doesnt have to be thrust into a starting role

Man oh man. My number 1 memory of Stallworth was in SB42 on a 3rd and 11 or something like that right before halftime. He caught a short screen and fought through multiple Giants defenders for a first down to avoid punting deep in our territory and extended a drive that should have resulted in points if not for a holding penalty and eventual turnover. Such a bittersweet memory though

There's something funny about how nonchalantly you say this...

I don't have particularly high hopes for him, I see him as just another one of the many WR bodies competing for a spot, but hopefully it works out!

Cousin I agree with your analysis of the Moss, Gaffney, Stallworth situation.
Stallworth was one of the fastest WR in his Draft Class or ever at 4.22. Depending on what you read, Brandon Lloyd has a 40 time of 4.62 highest (ironically Welkers Time was a 4.63. Anyone believe those 40s?) to a 4.52 and 4.57 lowest. Let's say he is a 4.55 guy. Not a speed merchant but better hands for sure than Stallworth. He also can work his way deeper though his patterns. Stallworth runs better after the catch. Llyoyd can make the acrobatic catch.

Assuning all are healthy, your 2012 Pats "go pattern" that they throw up in 2011 to ahhhh ......Slater!, this year could be better odds with Stallworth.

I have my own number system for WR depth patterns:

#1 Is a your "bomb catcher"(they don't use that word anymore. Must have to do with Home Land Security) Randy Moss, Bob Hayes, Mike Wallace type where you throw is as far as you can, deep guy.

#2 Is a deeper intermediate and can do a deep or work across or over the middle guy. This is a Megatron, Vincent Jackson.

#3 Is an intermediate but can get deeper guy like a Fitzgerald or Lloyd. "An intermediate receiver with benefits"

#4 Is an intermediate receiver like Colson, Roddy White, Reggie Wayne

#5 Is a short to intermediate like Welker, Hernandez, Steve Smith (your best #5s have great RAC yards)

#6 Is short and dump offs like Tony Gonzalez, Whitten and a Hines Ward who work back to the QB. These guys make their living at this.

I see Lloyd as a #3 and Stallworth as a #2 in my idiotic but compelling DWT WR RATE-O-RAMA. Gaffney is #5.

As age creeps up some are shuffles to a different DWT rating.

If he has not slowed down, Stallworth might still do fly pattern stuff in this Offense.
